Last Sunday, we had the pleasure of watching the play “My Wife’s 8th Vachan” at Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium. As with most plays in Delhi, we can categorize them as either offbeat or popular. This play falls under the latter category, as it was meant for simple entertainment. From the posters, it was apparent that this was a comedy, which is perfect for light fun theatre on a weekend. Furthermore, the star cast included Vinay Jain and Monisha Katyal, known faces from the film and TV world, along with Anup Soni, a well-known face from the TV series CID.

Weekend Theatre in Delhi
They staged the play on a Sunday during two shows, and we opted to watch the 4 pm show. The theatre was packed with almost all seats occupied, which was a testament to the charm of the star performer, Anup Soni. However, as the old saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in its taste, and we were curious to see how successful the play would be in keeping the audience engaged for the entire duration.
My Wife’s 8th Vachan – The Plot
The play started with a much-married couple having their usual fights. Given the flavor of the play, the fights looked cute rather than toxic. Some initial jokes were a mix of hits and misses, and honestly, the first 15-20 minutes were a bit of a build-up for the better part of the play. The play wasn’t funny from the start, but this could be a strategy of the director Satya Kaushik to let people ask for more. As the play progressed, it got better and better. After some time, the third character entered, and the play took a turn towards bittersweet comedy, with emotions thrown in here and there. In fact, the emotional part turned out to be the best moments of the play.

Not a Laugh Riot but Smiles All the Way
Not a single person left their seat before the play finished. Some of the comedy punches in the second half were way better than the first half, and we also felt that we got into the groove now. All three actors did a decent job without trying to overshadow one another. Some of the parts were verbose with long dialogues, and the timing and coordination were crucial. The cast pulled it off skillfully.
Fun With a Message
The play’s uplifting conclusion left the audience feeling good and delivered a powerful message about the importance of communication in relationships. With its light-hearted tone, “My Wife’s 8th Vachan” effectively conveyed the idea that “Baat Karne Se Hi Baat Banti Hai” (Communication is the key to success).
For those seeking weekend entertainment in Delhi, this play was a perfect choice. Though it had only two shows on a Sunday, we highly recommend it and hope that the FTS (Film and Theatre Society) stages it in the Delhi NCR region again soon. We would love to send our friends to enjoy this humorous and insightful production.
