Venue: Australian High Commission, Chanakyapuri
Date: 28th November 2015
Winter has already set in and to add to the charm of this misty weather, Christmas celebrations of all sorts are being organised in Delhi. Australian High Commission, like every year, has just organised a Charity Haat where some NGOs have set up stalls in the lawns of the High Commission.
We managed to attend this event this Saturday. Lucky to get a parking at The Ashoka Hotel, we walked till the venue. After a few rounds of frisking we entered the fair ground.

It looked like a cute arrangement where a handful of NGOs had set up stalls selling Christmas decor, winter wear, handmade cards, pickles, and jams etc.

Some of the artisans were working on their crafts right at the fair.
The event was attended by Indian as well as foreign visitors. We saw many of the foreigners in complete awe of the handmade items by local artisans. Along with crafts, there were food stalls serving local Indian food like choley bhature, samosa, chaat etc. along with stalls serving drinks, waffles and pizza.

Most of the visitors had their food sitting on the lawn soaking up the winter sun. The fountain at the High Commission added to the charm of the Haat.

We purchased a few knick knacks from various stalls. We were especially impressed with finger puppets made by kids and couldn’t resist buying the one with characters from Aladdin. It came in a small pouch with five characters – Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Evil uncle and the lamp. It was as cute as it can get.
The Haat was on for just one day that too till only 5 pm. Though there was very little time for us to absorb whatever was there on offer, we were happy that we managed to do it and it definitely kick started our Christmas celebrations a month in advance.
Awesome, thanks for telling us about this little known event. Will try to visit this next year.
