Planning A Work Trip To Delhi

Jan 23, 2020 | City, Sponsored

Not just because it is India’s capital, New Delhi is a very interesting city to visit and explore. If you go there on work, then do factor in a couple or more days to look around, go shopping and even eat some of the famous local foods and dishes. Many people may not give it much thought, but Delhi is also the financial and economic center of North India. It is the second most productive metropolitan center. The main industries that form the backbone of this powerhouse are hospitality, tourism, telecom, banking and IT to mention a few. If you plan to visit, there here are a few tips on getting around.

Getting around in Delhi

  • Like any other big city, getting around in a big city can be daunting. There are choices of course – metro, buses, trains, and cabs. If you are pressed for time and don’t want to deal with public transport, use a taxi service in Hisar to book an affordable and convenient ride. It might just be more convenient to have a cab on call than dealing with buses and other modes of transport. Be aware of your surroundings so that your travel is safe.
  • Keep in mind that Delhi is a sprawling metro and has many popular industrial and commercial areas, even in the middle of the city. The smart thing to do is to book a hotel near your work location. There are plenty of good and affordable hotels to choose from and you don’t have to compromise on comfort and quality.
  • Another factor to be aware of is that the weather in Delhi, especially in the summer, can be very humid and hot. The worst of the summer starts in mid-April and lasts till June/July, until the monsoons arrive to cool the city off. If you are in Delhi around this time, carry basic medication to cover minor ailments like colds, coughs, fevers, etc.
  • If you are in Delhi in the winter, be prepared for some really cold weather and bring your winter jacket and other essentials to stay warm.

Things to do while in Delhi

Delhi is an old and interesting city and has plenty of sightseeing and shopping and eating opportunities. If you get a bit of time off from a busy workday, make it a point to visit its monuments like India Gate, Rajghat and Humayun’s tomb. Like I mentioned earlier, if you can add a few days to your trip after work is done, then make a trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. As far as shopping is concerned, Chandni Chowk is one place to visit. A few other shopping areas include Dilli Haat, Janpath Market, Khan Market, and Paharganj.  Take a local along so that they can bargain on your behalf. Take back some exquisite silver jewellery, scarves and Indian made shoes called juttis as gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family.

Foodie Heaven

Locals rightly consider Delhi the foodie capital of India. Try some of the local foods like chole bhature, puri sabji, rolls, sweets, momos, parathas – whatever catches your fancy. There are so many places to visit and so much to do that a couple of days or a weekend may just not be enough to explore this beautiful city.

Not just Delhi, there are so many other tourist spots that one can explore in the vicinity that you must plan your time and trips well. One way to make the most of a trip is to book a cab from Delhi and get the maximum mileage out of your booking. It is a good idea to make a list of things you want to do and use the cab service to check off items from your bucket list. All this after your work obligations have been met.

I have resided in Delhi for a decade, and it was just 6 months back that I moved back to my home town. So now would be the time I start looking for a few above pointers, like cabs and hotels near the work place…and yes, the local food joints, sitaram diwanchand in paharganj and fateh ki kachori has always caught my attention

Delhi never ceases to amaze, and even though I was born here, it kind of grows on you year after year. I will make sure to visit all the places you have recommended, some of which I might have already visited before.
