Date: 25-26 Jan
Venue: Hotel Pearl Palace, Gopalbari, Jaipur

Food in Jaipur and one thinks of dal baati churma. Yum as that is, being tired of spicy food, we wished to have variety for dinner. The photographs and menu of the Peacock Rooftop Restaurant looked Inviting and we went there for dinner after a long day at the Jaipur Literature Festival.

Although tucked inside a residential area, it is not far from MI Road, the arterial road in Jaipur. We climbed a flight of stairs to reach the rooftop restaurant on the fourth floor (not advisable for people with knee issues). The crafty decor on the stairs indicated that the restaurant, if not anything else, would look great. A moderately sized rooftop was transformed into a very artistic zone with quirky-designed furniture and traditional Indian handicraft that was given a modern twist. On top of the shade, There was an oversized sculpture of a peacock sticking out its neck into the sky.

Peacock Roof Top Restaurant

This was one of the coldest evenings and they had fireboxes placed at strategic points. We were pleasantly surprised when the waiter came and offered us throws to cover ourselves. That’s when we cracked the mystery why almost every diner had a maroon shawl wrapped around.

This was a multi-cuisine place, true to its Continental/Chinese/Indian menu. We ordered American Chopsuey and Chicken Enchiladas with a pot of Masala tea. For dessert we ordered Crepe Apple Crumble. Every item tasted super good. So much so, that we came back for brunch the next day. The next day, we had Veg Burrito, Au Gratin, Tomato Basil Penne Pasta, Al Fungi Pasta, Black Forest Crepe, and French-pressed coffee.

It was evident that this place was popular with foreigners and almost all foreigners were ordering Indian food. We reached the conclusion that whatever they served it was tasty, fresh, and well-presented.

The waiters are attentive and yet don’t hover around ones table. There’s also a small silverware shop at one corner. Peacock redeemed our food experience in Jaipur that had otherwise disappointed us this time.
