The street food of Delhi is a huge tourist draw. Among all these options, at times, all that the heart and the stomach want is the humble bread omelette. Meherchand Market
There are quite a few bread omelette carts at Meherchand Market off Lodhi Road and we have tried almost all of them. But the best preparation is by this cart in front of MI Meat Shop. The cart is clean and the guy operating here has a way with eggs. His omelettes, fried in butter, are cooked just right and he evenly folds it around 4 slices of bread. With just the perfect amount of salt, onion slivers and chillies if you wish, the slightly crispy sides of the bread slice, wrapped in the soft omelette is a piece of heaven in the mouth. A dish fills us up for dinner and we often follow it up with a cup of chai. That’s a neat dinner for us done within 20 minutes and in 40 rupees per head.
Shankar Market
Shankar Market off Connaught Place has a host of general stores that also make omelettes and egg bhurji (scrambled eggs India style). We have tried many stalls here and all of them are good. They customize the omelette to your taste. One of us does not like spices. So his is left bland. The other one is not fond of coriander leaves, so that is left out in his omelette.
There is no seating arrangement here like most such stalls. But this area is opposite the parking. So if you do not like standing, you can carry the bread omelette to your car. They serve ketchup sachets that make it neat too.
Mandi House
We frequently watch plays at Mandi House area and are famished by the time we are done. The food stall adjacent to LTG is a life savior. They are open till late and they sever bread omelette, many varieties of parathas including egg parathas too. Their bread omelette is cooked to rare, and is extremely delectable. They have ketchup bottles lying on makeshift tables on top of boulders. Giant water pipes serve as benches here and yes, if you are up for some alfresco dining desi style, you would love this place. They have a loyal clientele so service may take a little time. But we have always found this place worth the wait. Given that they serve tea, we while away the waiting time by taking a sip. This experience renders an intellectual twist to Delhi winter nights.
Rohini
Rohini is predominantly a vegetarian area. So Krish Food stall on the dividing road of sector 6 and 7 in Rohini is a ray of hope to all those who want to include non-vegetarian protein in their diet. They serve omelettes, egg bhurji, boiled eggs topped with yum chutney and onion and tea. You can customise a dish to no end – only egg whites, a single yolk, more spice, less hot – so on and so forth. They patiently prepare the dish to the diner’s taste and again, this is our go-to option when in this part of Delhi. This stall is extremely popular among gym-goers in this area so do bear with some wait time.
Rahul Egg Corner
This list would not be complete if we do not write about Rahul Egg Corner on Lawrence Road at Keshav Puram, Northwest Delhi. A friend literally egged (pun intended) us to visit this place. It is a small joint, crowded and one has to share tables. But when we saw the unabashed enthusiasm around us, we as foodies, felt in like-minded company.
Rahul Egg Corner apparently serves 500 varieties of omelettes and that could be a record. Monaco Omelette was a star and on our friend’s recommendation, we ordered that. We also ordered a plain bread-omelette. The Monaco omelette did not have Monaco biscuits so busting that myth was a bit of a dampener. But the omelette was beautifully plated and looked ornamental, barely recognizable as an omelette! Also, it was spicier than the omelettes we usually have. We also tried the plain bread omelette combination and that was more our kind. An interesting trivia, bread omelette is served with onions and green chutney here that comprises coriander leaves, onion, garlic and loads of chillis. That definitely spikes the proceedings. So if you like your bread omelette hot – this is the place.
Come to think of it, omelettes have a lot more importance in the diet than we give it credit. Making the perfect omelette is apparently the test of a good chef. What we like about omelettes is that it is available virtually everywhere from the roadside cart to the five-star breakfast. Nobody creates a fuss in serving this dish. Many vegetarians in India also relent in case of omelettes. Eggs are a great source of the most vital nutrient – The Protein and omelettes perfectly serve the purpose.
We are happy to have taken you on this proteinaceous bread omelette journey through Delhi and hope you had as much fun reading it as we had in putting this post together.

I have never tried (or even heard of!) this! I’ll have to try those some time, they all look delicious!
I’d never heard of bread omelets before, but now I feel like I definitely must try! All those dishes look yummy! And healthy, too!
I have never been to Delhi and probably won’t be able to eat this because I’m vegan, but I think my friends would enjoy the food and would love to travel because I’ve heard so many good things.
I love the bread omelettee at Rohini! It looks so yummy, filling and very healthy especially with the vegetable toppings!
Pretty the same in Thailand, eggs seem like the go-to, comfort food for most. Every household has eggs, and it would be strange not to have.
Your list of favorite places to eat bread omelette is so interesting. Although I do not eat street food, I do feel tempted now to try such proteinlicious meal. Delhi Fun-dos are indeed die-hard foodies 🙂
