Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards META recognises and awards the best talent in theatre every year. The screening of nominated plays is going on from 21st to 26th March at LTG and Kamani Auditorium.

We watched “Rage and Beyond: Irawati’s Gandhari” from this series on Saturday evening.  The play was based on and inspired by Irawati Karve’s interpretation of the character of Gandhari and her life and struggles. Struggles that were not limited to her role as a wife and mother but as a woman. Presented as a blend of live singing and Kathak performance, Sanjukta Wagh did justice to her portrayal of the queen with a blindfold. She danced on live guitar performed by Hitesh Dhutia. Hitesh’s music not only made the performance melodious but also supported the narration with continuous modulation according to the situation.

“I lost all wars – all of them” – Gandhari screams in the end. Though the play did not tell us anything new about Gandhari, it’s still worth reminding that Nobody wins in a war. And that was our take back home.
