Revisiting the epics – the show depicted some famous and commonly known incidents from Ramayan and Mahabharat. The depiction included some lesser known facts and interpretations. The specific scenes were Sita in Ashok Vatika, Sita’s Agni Pariksha / Draupadi’s Cheer Haran/ Abhimanyu killing in Chakravyuh and the Game of dice. Attempting to summarise the Indian epics in a one hour show comprising narration and dance pieces is a rather adventurous endeavor. For this reason probably the script was simple.
Tom Alter, Bhavini Misra, Charu Khanna & Chander Khanna did justice to the narration. They were articulate and slightly histrionic, that contributed to the drama. The dance numbers were weaker than the narrative. These however provided entertaining punctuations in the script. The performance was successful in engaging the audience.
Crux of the show was that everyday all of us are still fighting our own epic battles and thus Ramayan and Mahabharat are still so relevant.
