Goa is to Delhiites, what Hawaii is to Americans. It’s our goto destination in summers, winters, around new year, after exams, on honeymoon, for destination weddings and possibly every other occasion. Friends make plans for going to Goa every time they get together and it’s known to be the most cancelled plan for one reason or another. These internet trolls are funny testimony to Delhiites craze for Goa plans and jinx associated with it.
It’s tough for anything to recreate the fun of Goa beaches, but Goan shack food has come to Delhi NCR this summer. Zambar’s Goan Food Festival is here to serve you some lip smacking coastal food with chilled out drinks this summer. Zambar has always impressed us with their good service and quality dishes, be it our experience over a vegetarian Sadya meal or their Southern Spices menu that we tried some time back. We recently had the opportunity to try Zambar’s specially curated Goan Food Festival.
We ordered the starters from their lovely shack menu sipping our coconut water and kokum mocktails. Mackerel Reichado, the grilled fish is any seafood lover’s delight. Grilled just enough not to kill the taste of the fish, the serving size was just right for two. Rawa prawns were coated with rawa and fried to perfection. Though the deep frying made the dish heavy on stomach, we still assumed it to be a cheat day treat and carried on savoring the deliciousness. Rossa omelette surprised us with it’s unique taste and presentation. Omlette dipped in chicken gravy, it was wholesome, tasty and went well with pao buns.
Our maincourse comprised of Kismo salad (dried prawns salad), Pork Vindaloo, Goan Fish Curry with brown rice, Sausage Pulao and Raita and Mushroom Xacuti. Fish curry was tender big chunks of fish in coconut based gravy. It was delicious with rice as well as pao. Sausage pulao had smokey bits of sausage and it was a complete dish on its own. Raita only elevated the taste of this already A++ dish. Mushroom Xacuti was probably created for vegetarians and wasn’t very impressive. Guilty of ditching the meat, we went back to our vindaloo and fish curry.
Desserts were simply outstanding. Specially the Banana Chocolate Pancake with grated coconut filling, which reminded us of the Bengali sweet wrap Patishapta. Succumbing to the demand of our sweet tooth we asked for a second helping. Goa’s famous Bebinca was served here with a dollop of butter scotch ice cream.
Zambar has once again left us pleasantly satiated but at the same time craving for more. We highly recommend their Goa Shack Menu to all seafood lovers.
