To cater to the insatiable demand of Delhi diners, new eateries are mushrooming every other day. To keep up, the established places are revamping their existing menus and giving it a new look and feel.

Spaghetti Kitchen has revamped its menu in all their outlets across the country. We were recently invited to their Gurgaon outlet to sample the new menu.

The Gurgaon outlet is in a standalone premise with a quaint lawn with kinky gate and fancy ornaments.

When we reached at about 7.30 in the evening, very few tables were occupied, but within an hour the restaurant was abuzz with diners.

Among the dishes that we had, the starter Sweet Pepper Ripieni came brightly dressed up in red, yellow and green - the colors of bell pepper and lettuce.

Among the dishes that we had, the starter Sweet Pepper Ripieni came brightly dressed up in red, yellow and green – the colors of bell pepper and lettuce. The taste of cottage cheese and herbs dominated in Ripieni and paved the way for stronger tastes of the following dishes.

One of their new stars is their pizza – Three Cheese. We were told that on public demand they have moved from thin crust to a thicker pizza base. Cheese was the main topping they had used and we could see that the mozzarella was of extremely good quality. Unlike the cheese that is used at fast food pizza chains, this was soft, formed strands and left a strong milky after taste.

The wild mushroom bits sprinkled on the top added to the flavor and texture.

Next, we wish to mention the Pesce Caprice – fish in lemon butter sauce. Grilled basa fillets were coated with a fragrant golden sauce, which was neither too buttery nor too tangy. This can be a standalone delight for seafood lovers.

After this, we were served the Involtini Pollo Lucania – chicken rolls served with red rocket leaves and lettuce – looked awesome, but the taste was passable – we wish the chicken was more tender.

We also tasted their Lamb Stew that comprised a saffron based stew and a pilaf (tasted like couscous, but it was rice and wheat combination). Again a fragrant dish, it looked like a golden fort surrounded by a yellow moat.

Lamb-Stew

The smoothness of the Lamb stew was a great combination with the grainy texture of the pilaf.

We also had crepes and pasta and this seemed to be the usual Italian fare.

However the drinks on the side deserve special mention. We had Black Pepper Kiwi, Pineapple and Pomegranate margaritas. All the drinks were a perfect combination of sweetness, tanginess, spirit and spunk.

For dessert we had shots of Tiramisu along with samplers of Blueberry Gelato, Lemon Cheese Cake and Chocolate Bomb. This was one of the best Tiramisus we have had.

Although the new menu has introduced quite a few interesting options, it is heartening that they haven’t deviated from the Italian fare that Indian diners are comfortable with. It is quite a fine dining experience without burning a major hole in one’s pocket.
