Substandard Subway

Well begun is half done they say. The corollary to this saying could be a bad beginning makes a bad ending.

So we realised Saturday evening when we were at Subway outlet, Connaught Place A Block. When we asked the store staff Yasir what was the “Sub of the day“. He responded “Corn and cheese“. He did not tell us the non-vegetarian option. When we asked specifically about the non-vegetarian “Sub of the day”, only then he told us it is “Tuna sub“.

We wonder how did __ assume that we want vegetarian food and would not be interested about non-vegetarian sandwich! Subway staff gave us incomplete information for no reason. This is bad service to say the least and we were surprised at this unprofessionalism.

But then there were more surprises (read shockers) waiting for us.

When we waited for having our sandwich at the counter, Archit the service staff was about to make our order. But suddenly a customer, who had walked in after us, asked Archit to make his order since he was in hurry. Archit started attending to this customer. This was surprising again and we expected atleast some explanation why someone was being unduly served out of turn before us! When we showed concern about this, he went back to making our sandwich.

But more surprise awaited. Archit did not ask us anything about our sandwich – no bread preference – no cheese preference – no toasting preference. He went about making our Tuna sub as per his discretion and not our choice. We were dumbfounded. When we asked him why was he not asking us about our choice, that is when we asked us what vegetables we would like!!

So 90% of our Tuna subs were made as per Subway Staff’s whim and fancy and not our health or taste requirement! This is not what Subway advertises. Subway advertises we can choose our bread and customize our sandwich. But this Subway staff do not follow that. For no fault of ours, they consider us unworthy of having a choice – we had to eat as per His Majesty Archit’s taste!

Bad unprofessional and customer service – lazy, irresponsible, whimsical but callous staff – spoilt our dinner totally.

This Subway is half true to it’s name – it is very very substandard and we are never coming back.
