Zomato recommends Rocky Road for this bakery. Hence, when we had to celebrate a birthday we ordered a kilo of this cake.

Rocky Road chocolate cake by Sweet Obsession

For one, it was delivered 50 minutes late, that too after two phone calls and a delivery charge of Rs. 50. No apologies – no explanation – just “baas Sir, nikal gaya aata hi hoga”.

The birthday boy had a time constraint and left without  the cake. We were stuck with this 1 kilo thing and a pocket burnt by Rs. 900.

The cake was tasty.  But NOT Rocky Road. The coating was almond and caramel chunks with dark chocolate cake inside. The bottom layer was biscuit which was a problem since it refused to come off the base. Consequently the upper layers and the below layer broke into pieces.

But where are the marshmallows that are a must ingredient for any Rocky Road desert? There was no marshmallow in this!  Therefore it is not correct to call this Rocky Road. It is just a version of their chocolate cake.

When one shells out a pricey Rs. 900 bill for a cake, one expects something that is more than passable quality. One expects something that is different from what is available at the stationery-cum-cake shop in the gully. We are extremely disappointed because we fell for the fancy tags and did not get what we had expected.

Lessons learnt:
(a)  While ordering give them 2 hours buffer time since these guys do not take the time factor seriously;
(b) Go with simple stuff – Pineapple; Chocolate; Butterscotch; Fresh fruit etc. and not lesser known flavours like Rocky Road. Notwithstanding Google recipes, the bakers here are clueless as to what slightly uncommon desserts entail.
