Dr. M Balamuralikrishna – Carnatic Recital
Good music breaks barriers as it has a language of its own. Dr. M Balamuralikrishna, a living legend of Carnatic music (remember the DD national integration song ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’), performed at IHC on 16th November. We could not follow the lyrics in Tamil / Sanskrit. But that did not come in the way of our experience in enjoying the concert.

Jug Jug Jiyo
“Jug Jug Jiyo” was about celebrating the girl child. In a simple and entertaining manner, the 1 hour 15 minutes play managed to touch the right chords. The play looked like an extension of “Vickey Donor”. Dolly Ahluwalia and Swaroopa Ghosh in their respective Punjabi and Bengali women roles brought life to the characters.

RATI : THE FEMINIST SOLILOQUY ON THE GODDESS OF LOVE
Then came the narrative which was long and boring. The script leant on the crutch made of borrowed Hindi film songs. So much for creative expression! Sohaila Kapoor’s stylish reading notwithstanding, the dull and repetitive writing was beyond salvation.
