Club Desire – Unmet expectations that turn a Relationship into Relationshit
Club Desire – Another offering from Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2015 talks about the fragile nature of relationships in current times. Living in metros and dabbling with love, career and family is challenging in its own and when one has to handle the insecurities of a romantic relationship along with that, things tend to go out of control.
Taming of the Wild – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2014
Though puppet theater added variety to Bharat Rang Mahotsav, Taming of the Wild wasn’t very impressive as the focus was all on the looks of the puppets, not much on the storyline or execution. Puppet theater is not just for kids… It can communicate much more and to a wider gamut of audience.
Saudagar – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2014
Saudagar (Based on Brecht’s Exception and the Rule) failed to impress. The bad rich man vs the nice poor guy is a topic even Bollywood shunned a couple of decades back. We wonder why theater folks are still hanging on to these age old topics.
Alka – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2014
A yawn-able play from Little Thespian group that deals with the story of a middle aged couple and their adopted children. The whole script was pointless and acting shoddy… Very disappointed with this offering from Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2014
Anji – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2014
An abstract but entertaining play touching many a lesser talked about social issues – girls marriageable age, importance of looks in finding a match…. an alternative take on rape etc along with tons of laughter using catchy punchlines and gimmicks made “Anji” an almost masterpiece.
Afsana – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Afsana, the finale of Bharat Rang Mahotsav is about two middle aged men who became friends after one of them ran over the other’s wife! Both wannabe writers – one got published while the other was struggling with cancer. There is terrorism and cross dressing, mock murder and more kebabs!
Laila Majnu – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Laila Majnu is a legend about star crossed lovers. This we knew already and we wanted to know more about the love story. This play failed to deliver. All we gathered that there was a dog involved in the fate of the lovers. 😀 A heavy dose or Urdu came in our way of understanding the tale.
The Country without a Post Office– Bharat Rang Mahotsav
The play was unapologetic about the gimmicks and was a mélange that displayed – yes!- the confusing relationship between Kashmir and India. With oodles of sensitivity, in a remarkable span of 45 minutes, the play conveyed the impact of the problem on common people. The stunts teased the senses and were visual as well as conceptual delight. That said, the Jana-Gana-Mana seemed contrived
