Gaj Kesri crudely translated would mean -“King of Elephants”. We recently stayed at Hotel Gaj Kesri, part of Basavana Art Hotels, in Bikaner, Rajasthan for three days. It is about 30 minutes from the Bikaner airport and very close to the desert. Art meets comfort and luxury at Hotel Gaj Kesri and it felt like oasis.
Years ago, a newspaper showed a small photo of Shikari Devi temple in Chindi, a serene Himachal spot. It resembled a Swiss meadow, intriguing us to locate it.
We had been invited to visit the Tigarth Art Festival across Himachal Pradesh. In this process we met Frank Schlichtmann, the curator of the art project In the Woods-2 or ITW-2. He also runs a lodge 4Rooms and a cafe 4Tables at Gunehar. But there is a lot more happening here. We are plain lucky that we got to witness Frank’s mind blowing work in bringing together the diverse concepts of art and hospitality.
Have you heard of Mitawali? It is said that the Indian Parliament House has been designed in line with the Shiva temple here. Mitawali is in Madhya Pradesh and we were in a mood to do an offbeat road trip from Delhi. Although MP is close, we weren’t sure if we could locate Mitawali.
Apart from sight seeing options in Udaipur, watching Dharohar an evening of dance, music and puppetry at Bagore ki Haveli is a great option to enjoy the rich and colorful tradition and heritage of Rajasthan.
We were clueless about Nathdwara till we visited Udaipur. After doing the local museums, Kumbhalgarh Fort and Bagor ki Haveli and other things to do in Udaipur we saw boards to Nathdwara . On asking around we came to know there is a Krishna temple there and could be covered in a biking trip. But we were skeptical whether it would be worth the effort.
Fagu is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh, about an hour’s drive from Shimla. In fact, it is one of the few hill stations that is under 7 hours drive from Delhi. We have been here a few times during monsoon and winter and it could be a great choice for a quick summer vacation as well. What brings us here again and again?
A hill station within 6 hours from Delhi that is affordable and not Shimla again. The Apple Cart Inn at Kiarighat in Himachal appeared as the answer.
