Cirque du Soleil is the largest theatrical producer in the world. They are coming to India for the first time to stage the show Bazzar under their huge iconic top tent in Delhi. We were invited to an up close and personal interaction with the teams of Cirque du Soleil and their India collaborators BookMyShow. Here is a scoop about this unique event.
Aadyam is back with their 2018 season and the first presentation in Delhi was a Hindi comedy play Nau Do Gyarah. The play was a production by The Company Theatre and directed by Atul Kumar. Given that the plot was a comedy murder mystery, we really didn’t know what to expect.

The theme had us all excited and we had to watch Sehar. But we were not alone in our dream journey. Serpentine queues at the Siri Fort entry that evening proved that we had enough co-passengers sharing our aspirations.
Daddy in doubt – a new comedy play by Tamasha Entertainment is a mix of verbal and non-verbal comedy. The play predominantly focus on a brand of physical humor infused with beautifully worded punchlines. The entire cast is an ensemble from different walks of life giving an interesting flare of characters on stage. Enjoy the laugh riot this Saturday at Akshara Theatre, Delhi.
Aadyam’s presentation this time is Anand Express. The play is based on Keith Gray’s story Ostrich Boys that was later adapted by Karl Miller for stage. The Indian adaption by Adarsh Khurana was recently staged at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. Directed for Aadyam by Nadir Khan, this is a Rage Productions presentation.
Aadyam has been bringing about a movement in Delhi NCR. Many of us have started coming back to theatre to watch their immaculate play productions. Bandish 20 – 20000Hz was recently staged at Kamani Auditorium under the Aadyam banner. It has upcoming shows in Mumbai this month and it’s a must watch.
Guild of the Goat, a newly formed theatre group is staging Lynda Radley’s play Futureproof at Oddbird Theatre at Chhattarpur. It is somewhat experimental and open to interpretations. They have more shows this week so you could watch this and form your own conclusions.
Mahendra Theatre Excellence Awards (META) 2017 has brought experimental theatre to the fore. One such piece is Bhima, based on the eponymous character of second Pandava in Mahabharat. The 1 hour 10 minutes duration of the play was edge of the seat exciting.
Amavas se Amaltas is a bilingual play in Hindi and English written and directed by Smita Bharti. It has a stellar cast – Jayati Bhatia, Ssumier Pasricha, Ankita Bhargava and Chitrashi Rawat. We were invited to watch this play and were most excited to see the pro thespians at their acts!
Mahendra Excellence Theatre Awards (META) this year had a host of mind-numbing beautiful plays and the jury would have had a very tough time in selecting the winners. A particularly interesting piece was ‘Elephant in the Room’ a soliloquy created out of an interesting topic. It is a quirky twist to the familiar story of Ganesha’s losing his head due to his father’s wrath and having an elephant head attached instead!
12th MAHINDRA THEATRE FESTIVAL (META), the annual extravaganza of plays by Mahindra Group is about to start at various venue in New Delhi. META recognises the best in Indian theatre every year through their METAWARDS during this theatre festival.
