Just like a scene from Disney’s “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs”, it’s raining burgers in Delhi. Every month some new international burger chain is opening its outlets in Delhi NCR. McDonalds is passé. Delhi foodies are looking for variety. Black burgers, square burgers and char grilled burgers are finding their way to the ever expanding Delhi belly and Delhites don’t mind shelling extra bucks or queuing up at newly opened outlets of Fat Burger, Burger King, Wendy’s, Sbarros and what not. And if that’s not enough, a lot of local burger places are also mushrooming and doing brisk business. Burger is the new denim. It’s going to stay irrespective of the season or trend as long as sellers keep making slight variations here and there and repackage it interestingly.
While struggling with traffic menace of West Delhi during monsoon and the Kanwaria season, we stumbled upon this fast food joint called The Burger Club around Rajouri Garden. This is located on first floor and there is no dedicated parking. We somehow managed to squeeze in the car right below the restaurant staircase. Once inside, we easily found a place to sit. They had a private party going on in one portion of the restaurant. This made the place festive but a bit crowded and noisy.
Looking at their menu we realised they are not just another burger place. Though the menu did not have a lot of options but whatever was listed, had a twist. Not just their burgers, even the French fries were unusual here.
The staff at burger place comprises a team of youngsters who are intelligent and well informed about the food. The lady at the counter highly recommended Island Chicken Burger for first timers. We agreed and ordered this burger along with an Egg Burger. Both the burgers had very fresh buns and the insides had a pleasant Indian twist with slightly spicy patties. The egg burger had an omelette along with potato-soy patty and the Island Chicken Burger had a slice of pineapple in it. We liked it. Along with the burgers, we ordered Kumara fries. Kumara fries are fries from New Zealand and are made of sweet potato instead of regular potato. We had this for the first time and found these tasty.
Though we were satiated, looking at the traffic on the road we thought of staying for some more time and try more of their menu. We ordered Tangy Bites and Banoffee pie. Just like the Island Chicken Burger, Tangy Bites is also their signature dish. These are fried potato dumplings served with onion, green chilli and some creamy dressing on top. This was too spicy for us and we didn’t like this fusion dish much. In fact the chilli was mouth burning. The Banoffee pie came to our rescue. It was mild in sweetness, creamy and delicious. The crunchiness of the toffee and softness of the banana made it an awesome dessert. We loved it and highly recommend this at The Burger Club
This place is not for the calorie conscious but a must try for fast food and especially burger lovers.
