We always wondered why they named a pub “The Classroom”. When we went, it was evident from the theme that someone had turned the concept of school on its head. Desk bench like seating arrangement, aluminium thalis is quaint shapes and a tuck shop selling unhealthy snacks was a reminder of a school. Books crumpled and folded like lamp shades was the ultimate shocker.
No wonder the place is so popular among the young folks and it was a crowded house when we visited Friday evening. People were mostly ordering drinks – cocktails and home brewed beer. The cocktails, though too sweet for our taste, were very potent. The Bloody Mary here is a must try – smooth but not overly sour or spicy, this was a great accompaniment with food. The home brew beer, as most home brews go was mild but tasty.
The starters that were ordered seemed a little flat. The palak pata chat or scotch eggs could have done with more taste and we don’t mean mirchi. Hence we didn’t expect a lot from the main course. Therefore it was a pleasant surprise when the mixed vegetable dish Miloni Subzi turned out to be so tasty. A host of vegetables that were well cooked but retained their crunch were bound together with slight cream Indian seasoning. Rich yet healthy, served with thin parathas, it was a complete meal.
The river sole Italian style was also super yum. The fish serving was generous, mashed potato smooth and tasty and the whole dish was perfectly cooked and well plated. This dish floored us.
For dessert we tried their choco lava – nice and mildly salty, this tasted nice with ice cream.
Good aircon, hospitable staff and the potent Bloody Mary they serve here may take your school horrors away. Time to visit The Classroom.
