“The best of desires lies on the palette” is what Tagore had written and the surging crowds at the recently concluded The Grub Fest couldn’t be a more accurate example.
It is been a couple of years since the food festival The Grub Fest started in Delhi and we have been regulars here from its early days. This is the second installment of Grub Fest for the year, the first being held in March 2017. Nonetheless, there is no ebbing in interest. The Grub Fest seems to be a must-do for young adults who turned up in their weekend best and the crowd surged progressively with the evening.
But what does The Grub Fest hold?
For one, to keep Delhites well-fed and entertained, the festival brought together some of the most popular restaurants offering their signature drinks and dishes. Around 40 to 50 food places participated we think. But that was not all. There were a host of other activities such as cooking sessions and mixology classes and even a clothes store. The program board had famous music bands such as Bombay Rockers, Hardy Sandhu, Guru Randhawa & Hari Sukhmani performing on the open-air stage. A kids’ play zone and makeshift movie theatre made sure there was something for everybody.
This Grub Fest was extra special with the inauguration program of the world-famous wax museum Madame Tussaud in Delhi. A makeshift marquee resembling a show tent a fair displayed wax models of Justin Bieber (debuted here), Jennifer Lopez, and our very own Hrithik Roshan. This space was a hub of photography (read selfie) activities. London-themed red retro phone booths dotting the fairground were perhaps an ode to the origin of Madame Tussauds in London some 300 years ago.
The parking scene outside was messy and the parking guys were charging whopping sums for getting the vehicle owners some space to shove their cars. The traffic at the JLN Stadium was also super chaotic because of the event. But given the fanfare in the late autumn air, nobody seemed to mind.
No wonder we call The Grub Fest 2017 an ideal Fun-Do.
