Habitat was holding a film festival on behalf of Vatavaran. In this series, the documentary ‘Timbaktu’, a 30 minute film on experimentation on organic farming in a village in Andhra Pradesh, was featured. Crisp yet touching, this film once again brought to the front another instance of all the amazing things people around us are doing.

The protagonist, Bablu Ganguly was giving back to nature his dues by implementing chemical free farming techniques. And very modestly, he returned the compliment on the success of his endeavours to nature, as according to him, nature herself was procreating. But, as a result of the organic farming techniques that were implemented, the livelihood of the people had improved and farmer suicides have come down in that area. More details on this project are available at – http://www.timbaktu.org/

Touching but non-pedantic, we hope to see more of such documentaries, documenting more such magic.

CMS Vatavaran organized a screening of documentary films on the theme of environment. We find the honest observation of life through this medium expanding our horizons on various topics. Hence we attend documentary screenings whenever possible. In this series we recently watched the National Award winning documentary “I Cannot Give You My Forest”.
