Tsutra – A Melange of Craft in Delhi

Sep 2, 2017 | Exhibitions, Free Events, Handicraft

Venue: Alliance Francaise
Date: 1-3 September 2017

Sasha and Sanskar are participating in Tsutra, a craft exhibition held in association with Art Culture Festival at Alliance Francaise, off Lodhi Road, adjacent to India International Centre.

The exhibition has bespoke items, mostly clothing and accessories, all hand made by artisans from Bengal and other parts of India. While the skill set is traditional, the goods have been given a contemporary twist. For example, Batik leather bags and file covers from Santiniketan have been embossed with Ikat motifs. This makes them contemporary and good to go with Indian, western or fusion attire. In addition there are Kantha sarees, stoles, purses, cotton sarees, block printed dresses and coats, home accessories and so on. We also loved the quirky studio pottery and ceramic pendants. It is a curated collection making it so much easier for a shopper to make a quick but sound purchase.

India celebrated Ganesh Utsav last week and today is Eid. We are already in the festival season for 2017. Thus if you are gearing from for some festival shopping and plan to pick up a piece of India without burning a hole in your pocket, Tsutra is the place. And yes, in the process you also support our artisans who deserve all patronage they get for churning out such beautiful creations in extremely compromised conditions.

Tsutra is on 1-3 September 2017, 11 am – 7 pm.
