The story of an unrequited love read through love letters written over a time span of 35 years is what this legendary play is all about. No props, no stage gimmicks, no loud dialogues, just two solid actors – Shabana Azmi and Farooq Sheikh – delivering their powerhouse performance by reading out letters written for each other.
Right now we are laughing and right now we have a lump in our throat…. right now the words in this letter canoodling our hearts and right now we want them to read the last letter again… We experienced a host of emotions in this quiet dance of words, expressions, and subtle Urdu poetry.
Shabana Azmi. as her role demanded was the dominating of the two, Farooq Sheikh on the other hand underplayed his character so well, you want to kiss the ground on which he walks. Director Feroz Abbas Khan has woven the love of Amrita and Zulfi in this series of love letters that lingers in the hearts of audience for a very long time.
Watching Tumhari Amrita was an experience of a lifetime. Undoubtedly one of the finest plays we have ever seen.
Had heard that this was one of the finest, and was a to do always. But missed it. and now, for good.
