Delhiites can make anything about food effortlessly, be it weddings, festivals or even fasts. Navratri – the auspicious nine days of worship and austerity have become a big thing in Delhi and various brands have Navratri deals, discounts and what not. Similarly restaurants and cafes are also bringing to diners new varieties of food specially curated for Navratri fasts.
We are regulars at Punjab Grill – tried their Punjab food festival, Navratri thali last year at Saket outlet and recently savored their street food delivery. Always impressive and always very Indian at heart. This time we tried Navratra menu at Punjab Grill Tappa at DLF Cyberhub Gurgaon.
The Navratri special menu comprised of fruit salad and roasted masala makhanas for starters. Served with chilled Pineapple Panna, the starters were very light on stomach but high on taste. The dressing for fruit salad was tangy mint chutney that went well with watermelon slices.
Main course comprised of Rajgiri and palak puris served with gravy of pumpkin, tomatoes and potato mash. Very home style and very tasty, this is all you need to satiate your tastebuds. But the twist lied in next two dishes – the paniyarram which was coin sized idlis made of vrat rice, topped with tangy chutney and served on a thin stick like a lollipop. Probably the cutest navratra food item we have ever had. Koshimbir was like a sabudana papad taco filled with candied almonds and amla. This experiment totally rocked. We loved the fact that almost everything was devoid of mirchi but still full of flavors. You don’t need a lot of masalas to make stuff tasty specialy when the festival is about Satvik food.
Desserts comprised of Kulfi and chenna roll. Kulfi also had some fruit inside – like candied pumkin and it added a beautiful texture to the dessert.
This navratri dinner was a rare treat and we left the place without feeling bloaty or burping mirchi. Moreover since the food was light on stomach and there was good use of fruits, there was no sluggish or sleepy feeling afterwards. Brownie points for that. We highly recommend special navratri menu at Punjab Grill Tappa.
