Change is the only constant in life. This philosophy resonates in the taste palette of Delhiites. Some years back the whole city was reeling with momo mania. But momos have been replaced and the hero now is waffles. WAFL is a chain with outlets at many locations across the globe and their mainstay is waffles! They have few outlets in Delhi.
We were recently in West Delhi and stopped at the Punjabi Bagh outlet of WAFL. Its a small fuss free outlet with bright colours and good vibes. The menu thankfully is not very long but had many surprises.
For instance, savouries.
We thought waffles were only desserts till we visited WAFL. They have a host of savoury items too and that moves WAFL from just a dessert place to a full meal option. One of the first savoury item that we had is the Corn Dog. It is a corn waffle envelope holding stuffings and has a stick on the side like a lollipop. Not only does it look cool but the sweetness of corn went very well with the slightly spicy chicken in the filling that we had ordered.

The Waffle Sandwich is just that – a sandwich in which the breads are replaced by waffles. We opted for chicken again and the item with the stuffing and mayo and other sauces was a filling sandwich with a difference. It is actually a must try for all those allergic to bread. The Waffle Pie is also new to us – here the waffle is prepared with various ingredients. All the dishes are filling and can make a meal.
Among desserts they have the Hong Kong Waffle cone which is like an ice cream cone. But the cone is made of waffle that looks like a puffed jacket. They have a host of fillings, toppings and drizzles one can choose and the dish, when ready, looks very colourful and photogenic. The simple taste of the waffle balances the sweetness of the other elements in this item. Although a dessert, this too is very filling. We also tried the good old Belgian waffle. This is the only familiar dish that we could identify and the banana caramel flavour is very comforting.
Last but not the least we want to mention the J-Tube. We had no idea what this was and when it was served we saw that the name was justified. It is a letter J shaped tube that looked like a Christmas candy cane and was filled with ice-cream. The corn envelope was like a cone and the novelty of the dish kicked us to no end. If you are coming with children, this is a must have.
They also serve beverages and we had coffee. This was a tad bland and could do with some power.
Nonetheless the staff is warm and we can see the joint is popular among the young crowd. Given the queue here, we had to wait a bit for our orders.
We had no idea that such a lot has changed in the waffle world till we came to WAFL. Waffles rock and WAFL is a Fun-Do way to rock with this new found food love.
