Venue: Pragati Maidan
Date: August 29 – September 6, 2015
The Delhi Book Fair that is organised during the last week of August – first week of September every year and was recently held at Pragati Maidan.
The fair occupied about five halls and presented an extensive variety of books on a wide range of subjects and the participants included Indian and foreign publishers. Notwithstanding the festivals in this period (Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami), the fair registered a decent footfall that cut across generations.
Elderly couples as well as young kids were seen pulling heavy bags filled with books with nothing but enthusiasm on their faces. It was extremely heartening to see the turnaround in the interest in reading in the era of games, social media and internet. In addition to the Book Fair, Stationery Fair, Office Automation Fair and Corporate Gifts Fair that were held concurrently drew a lot of interest.
End August – early September weather is never great in Delhi (warm and sticky) and is not very suitable for outdoor activities. Perhaps the organisers would choose some other time in the year for this event.
