The ladies of Delhi came together on Women’s Day to launch the short film “Yes, I Am Beautiful“.
This is a series of narrations by a host of women who share their life experiences. Their body images that society describes with dark, fat, thin, and innumerable other similar adjectives.
“I have big arms and big thighs, dull skin and scarce hair, a double chin and paunch, bony legs, flat bottom, eye bags and thin lips… that I am too fat or too thin” they say. But breaking all these perceptions these ladies have been able to connect with their inner beauty.
They have been able to break away from conventions or stereotypes and say “Yes, I Am Beautiful“. The film is about 7 minutes and the women featured here speak straight from the heart. The vibrant background reinforces that beauty is not in looks, it is all around us. You can watch the film here
A woman’s body is her right. Her shape-size-complexion are her prerogative. Thankfully this is a theme that has received due attention finally and mainstream entertainment has been highlighting this in movies like “Pink” and “Anarkali of Arrah“.
High time we realized human beauty is not skin deep and body-shaming is so not cool. It’s the glow based on self-acceptance, confidence, and happiness that comes from inside. “Yes, I Am Beautiful” is, therefore, something not only women but we all must say since we owe it to ourselves.
