Beat the Heat at these 5 Hill Stations near Delhi

May 23, 2017 | Travel

Summer vacations are here and hence the perennial question – where to go in Summer Vacations from Delhi NCR. While some people have made plans in advance, some are still clueless. Delhi and Gurgaon are quite close to Himachal, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. Since Rajasthan is even hotter than Delhi in summer months, most of Delhiites look for Hill Stations in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to spend some chill out time with family in summer vacations. Shimla, Nainital, Kullu Manali and Mussoorie are some very popular destinations for summer vacations from Delhi. But they are crowded with tourists, expensive in this peak season and there is hardly any feeling of relaxation and tranquility there.

We are listing some offbeat travel destinations from Delhi that are doable via road or train easily in 3-4 days. All these places are our personal favorites and you can also click Read More at the end of each destination to read our travelogue of the respective travel places. In fact, these places are pocket friendly travel destinations from Delhi Gurgaon and we like them on this account as well.

Shoghi

Done with Shimla? Himachal has a host of other options. During summer vacations almost entire Delhi Gurgaon is looking out for escapades. Shoghi is a hamlet in Himachal few kilometers before Shimla. This place has some small hotels, resorts and quite a few homestay options. It is quiet, serene, gives you great views of the Himalayas and Shimla city. Shoghi is suitable for people who are looking for a slow leisurely trip. The well laid broad roads and little motor traffic makes this place apt for long walks. Tara Devi Temple and Dudhara Mata Temple are a few things to do in Shoghi apart from relaxing and camping.

Kasauli

Himachal
has more surprises to offer. Just 6 hours drive from Delhi and one is at Kasauli – 6100 feet above sea level and officially a hill station. Kasauli is one of the nearest hill stations from Delhi. Since there are not a lot of tourist attractions, this helps to maintain the serenity of the mountains. Some must dos at Kasauli are Christ church, Dilbert trail and Manki point. We recommend this to all who enjoy long walks… gazing at the sky… listening to silence.

Kausani

Kausani is a quiet and serene hill station in Uttarakhand. It’s around 140 kms from Nainital and is a sleepy hill town. Enroute to Kausani, drive through the amazingly picturesque valleys with step farming and serpentine rivers. The roads are smooth and covered with unknown wild flowers on the side. Apart from nature walks, Anashakti Ashram of Gandhiji is one of the major things to do at Kausani. The ashram is a calm and serene place and the view of the valley from this ashram is fantastic.

Lansdowne

Lansdowne is a quite hill station in Uttarakhand. Only a few hours away from Delhi NCR, Lansdowne appears to be engulfed in a time warp. Lansdowne is maintained by Garhwal Rifles cantonment board (read cleanliness, orderliness and efficient administration). That could be the reason why the town is not a typical tourist hill-station. Things to do in Lansedown includes Tiffin top, St. Mary’s church, Bulla taal and Tarakeshwar mahadev mandir.

Morni Hills

Morni Hills
is perhaps the only hill station in Haryana. It is off Chandigarh and not very far from Delhi. It is about 5 hours drive from Delhi. Morni Hills are as peaceful as it can possibly get. You can spend time just sky gazing and taking long walks along the hills. Apart from that, Tikkar tall, Morni fort and Pandav temple are some of the things to do in Morni Hills.
