A little birdie told us about this new restaurant launch in Gurgaon and we went for a late lunch to Birdie Num Num right on their launch day this Saturday. It’s located on the ground floor of this business tower Global Foyer Mall which is almost deserted as of now.

Simple, uncluttered and modern decor with gray and turquoise hues was pleasant on eyes. They haven’t pushed the bird theme too much and we liked that. We said hello to the weekend and parked ourselves in front of their bar.

We had a few cocktails along with fried papad and some starters. “Passive Aggressive” was their whiskey and peanut butter based cocktail. It looked sensational but was a little too sweet for us. Also the peanuts were soggy :disappointed:

The early bird” was their coffee based cocktail and we liked it much better. It was quite similar to another favourite coffee based cocktail “Tall dark & Irish” at Flyp@MTV.

From starters, Bhoot Jholakia chilli cheese melt and Telangana chilli chicken almost brought tears to our eyes. Extremely hot, these two dishes are not for the faint hearted. Our tastebuds went numb and we couldn’t figure out any other taste than chilly in these starters.

Kasundi deviled Scotch eggs were much better and we loved the presentation of the bowl in a nest – goes straight to our Instagram. Also for vegetarians we would highly recommend their creamy potato filled snake gourd. Topped with some sweet sauce this was “melt in the mouth” delicious.

From main course, Kerala stew with appam was finger licking good. The slightly sour appam with piping hot stew had homely warmth to it. We totally dig food like this. Assamese kukura curry was flavored with bamboo shoot and the Kolhapuri mutton was tender and well cooked. Though on spicier side, this hot curry was balanced with steamed rice and Malabar paratha which in our opinion was one the finest we have ever tasted.

They saved the best for last. Our dessert was Rose flavored tea cake that arrived with our coffees. This moist sponge cake totally blew us over. Topped with rose sauce and dried rose petals this made us hum “Sweet dreams are made of this…” after a long time. This heavenly slice of cake made us forget everything else we had before this dessert.

The menu has many more interesting dishes that we wish to try sometime soon. Their dishes are going to look very nice on our Instagram and we are going back to try those out.

And of course the rose cake!
