Pizza Express has introduced a special menu for the Christmas – New Year season. We were invited to review the new items on offer. We have already reviewed their outlets at Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj and Gurgaon. Pizza, as we keep saying, is the new paratha for us Indians. Thus we happily accepted the invite and chose their outlet at Epicuria.
This restaurant is on the first floor. Spacious with comfortable seating, we liked the fact this was well illuminated and exuded positive vibes.
The evening started with Mulled Wine. This is sweetened red wine flavoured with aromatic spices such as cinnamon and served warm. This is a Christmas tradition and the taste suited the ongoing chill. Among the starters we recommend the dough balls with the spinach dish. We loved the subtlety of the cheese spinach combo. We tried the white sangria as well and liked that as sort of a palette cleanser.
Then came the soup that was passable whereafter we were served pizzas.Three of the four new pizzas are thin crust and the spice alert on the menu should be taken seriously. The toppings were interesting. However in tune with our pizza craving, we ordered Verdure that is on the traditional thick base. That sealed it for us.
We next tasted the pastas and strongly recommend these. These are way more palatable than pastas elsewhere that often suffer from overload of cheese or sauces. The pastas here are balanced in cheese, sauces and other seasoning. They satisfy the tastebuds without killing the appetite.
The desserts made us go bonkers with happiness. We tried the Big Bad Brownie and Warm Berry Crumble. The Crumble was a combo of berry puree and ice cream. It’s a dessert that’s devoid of the killer calories and yet satisfies the sweet tooth. The brownie was a sinful combo of nutty brownie, chocolate sauce and vanilla gelato. This was sinful but not regrettable.
Pizza Express have a special selection of items that comprise a whole meal for Rs. 650 (and taxes). Given that this Christmas & Holidays special menu comprises the whole gamut of a festive spread – go for it!
