Basmati in India has created a lot of ripples across the world. It is not only one of the best known aromatic rice but is subject of various legal tangles. A host of countries have staked claim to Basmati or have created a variety of rice that they claim is Basmati (example Texmati in Texas). India has been very proactive in protecting her intellectual rights on Basmati that is exclusive to our plains.

With the foray of corporate in the field of rice, Basmati is now widely available and frequently consumed across the world. Its popularity has surged in Indian in recent years. LT Foods, the owner of brands Royal and Daawat recently organized an event for spreading Basmati globally. Indian Masterchef and now Padma Shri Sanjeev Kapoor collaborated with Chef Joseph JJ Johnson that afternoon and spoke about the glory of Basmati at Longchamp, Hotel Taj Mansingh. They also cooked pineapple fried rice live in the presence of invited bloggers and audience. This was followed by a sumptuous lunch where almost all the dishes were made of Basmati. These dishes happened to be the signature recipes by Kapoor or Johnson.

It was interesting to note that Basmati can go beyond Biryani and Pulao and can be used to make tasty salads and desserts as well.

Kudos to LT Foods for promoting Basmati , an inseparable part of our heritage.
