We have been planning to visit Veda for a while. To answer our wishes, we received an invite for a pre launch of this restaurant in Gurgaon. There was a twist though. Veda and Djinggs have come together and this restaurant in Gurgaon is a confluence of Indian as well as Schezwan cuisines.

In parity with this concept, half the restaurant was decorated with Indian designs, e.g. lotus motifs, lamps hanging from the ceiling and vintage era mirrors hanging from the walls. The tables in this section were marble inlay from Agra. In contrast the tables in the adjacent Chinese section were contemporary wooden designs and the ceiling had Chinese painted umbrellas turned upside down as lampshades. The décor in a single word is posh.

The food matched the standard of the décor. A combination of Indian and Chinese dishes were served. While we liked all of them, our recommendations would be the Pork BaoSesame prawns on toast and “Curry leaves“, a snack made of lotus stem and potato chips, garnished with Indian seasoning like curry leaves. Incidentally, these made great snacks with our Scotch and Pinacolada.

The main course arrived late but it was worth the wait. Again a selection of Indian and Chinese dishes were served. For us, the star was the Goan fish curry served hot with streaming rice. Cooked in coconut milk, mild but rich, it’s worth visiting this place for this dish.

We had Shahi tukda for dessert.

They were playing soft lounge music like Buddha Bar and that helped us de-stress after a hectic work day.

Veda Djinggs is very suitable if you are in a mood to indulge.
