A weird experience at BTW Outlet in West Delhi

Date: 12th May 2019
Venue: BTW Kirti Nagar, Delhi

My mother is a staunch vegetarian and I was looking for a simple place to have Mother’s Day lunch with her and kids. Since the summers were at its peak, we wanted some place closer home. We just chanced upon this Bittoo Tikki Wala (BTW) outlet kirti Nagar and because my mother is a fan of Indian street food variety we thought of giving this place a shot.

Its a very small outlet with 4-5 tables. I generally avoid self service restaurants when I am out with family but this one was very small, so not a lot of walking between order and delivery counter.

We ordered chholey bhature, South Indian platter, Special North Indian thali, Tikki and Lassi. Chholey bhature, tikki were fine. South Indian platter had dosa, uttapam, idli and vada all in one platter. This was alright but the uttapam was a little too dry for my taste. Also they should reduce the salt in their South Indian items. North Indian Special Thali was a huge disappointment. None of the things in the thali worked. Priced at par or more than Haldiram’s and Bikaner’s this was in no comparison to these brands when it came to taste or quality. The overall experience of food at BTW was a little underwhelming.

Here’s what spoiled the overall experience more. We ordered some Rasgulla for packing. While the counter staff was packing our order I went for hand wash (the wash basin was dirty and the dust bin adjacent to it was overflowing). When I came back I asked for my parcel from the staff at the counter. He just didn’t look up or reply. I asked again and he walked away as if I didn’t exist. I kept wondering what was going on. I went to the other counter to ask for my parcel and the staff at this counter said its already packed and I should pick it. I asked him – pick it from where ?? – The guy never put the parcel on the counter!!! Was I expected to enter their staff area or jump over the counter to take my packet? I had to finally speak in a stern voice to get them moving and hand over my packet. To this a gentleman came and said sorry. Apparently he was the outlet manager who was standing there all along when I was asking for my packet from the guys at the counter. He only bothered to move when the scene got messy. I wonder how do these people end up in hospitality industry.

When we were leaving the manager came and hand over a 10% discount coupon valid for next 4 days as an apology. What a shame for such a big name. They spoiled the Mother’s Day experience for my family and me! Decided to never visit again and would not recommend this place to anybody.
