Antaragni – Theatre Competition At IIT Kanpur

The show must go on they say. Delhi-Fun-Dos stands for all things fun even in difficult times. And what can be more fun than the theatre world where you can just be someone else at some other time or space. Antaragni, a theatre competition, is annually held at IIT, Kanpur. In deference with the current scenario of social distancing, Antaragni’20 was an indomitable online event. Delhi-Fun-Dos was happy to collaborate as a media partner for this online theatre festival.

Here is what the Antaragni’20 Team has to say about their online theatre competition –

Dramatics competitions at Antaragni witnesses tremendous participation from over 900 students coming from more than 50 colleges from overall India. The Dramatics competitions include Street Play, Stage Play, and Mime (Mimica). The audience reception during the four days of the Dramatics competitions at IIT Kanpur is immense with a footfall of over 12,000. The games are widely renowned and professionally conducted with a high standard of participation. The judges are professionally famous and acclaimed theatre experts nationwide like Mr Darshan Jariwala, Anjan Srivastava, Mr Akhilendra Mishra, Mr Surendra Pal, Mr Rakesh Bedi, Mr Rajesh Sharma, Mr Virendra Saxena, Mr Harish Patel.

Amidst these challenging times, Antaragni shimmered virtually. Dramatics competitions of 2020 were conducted in an online mode. The two events under the Dramatics competitions 2020 viz a viz we’re “Monologue” and “Solo Mime” grabbed the attention of many drama enthusiasts receiving overwhelming hundred participation from all over the country. Managing such a vast event couldn’t have been possible without our Dream-On partners who were Asmita Theatre Group, Jazba Theatre Group and Saitan Theatre Group

Monologue caught the interest and imagination of the competitors uniquely. This was the first time Dramatics Antaragni conducted Monologue, and the outcome was phenomenal. Our judges for this event were Himmat Singh Negi, Abhishek Sharma, Tarun Kohli and Rajneesh Gautam.

Through this piece, We are announcing and publishing the top performers of the events concluded.

Apne Hi To Hai, a very natural and pure piece of art performed by Mr Danish Aneja ( ATMA RAM SANATAN DHARMA COLLEGE) was the most appreciated performance and also the one who grabbed the 1st position in Monologue, Antaragni’20. Mr. Deep Chatterjee’s Zalzala (Kirorimal College), an energetic and unique account, stood at 2nd position. The 3rd position was shared not by one but two participants, Ms Komal Munshi’s Performance (Sri Aurobindo College (m)) and Ms Sadaf Afreen Mondal’s Tawaif (Loreto College).

Our honourable guests for Solo Mime were renowned mine artist Mime Madhu and Mr Yogesh Kumar. Mime by Ms Sarani Deb ( Loreto College) secured 1st position with her performance which was a reflection of the purity this art carries.

    This is so good. The Antaragini competition looks really good. So many talented competitors will b there. However, mostly I’m happy that IIT Kanpur is promoting it!

    Theatre competitions and festivals are always great fun. The thrill of watching live theatre is amazing. The Antaragni competition seems to have been a nice event, though online, in the current scenario, it must have been lots of fun. I can see the enormous talent that was on show in the event.

    The cultural diversity in the IITs is awesome. In fact the fests never fail to enthrall us. I have seen Spring Fest at IITKGP. IITK is no less. Wonderfully put. I would like to see some potraits of the mimes. They speak a lot in itself.
