Any foodie or food blogger worth his salt would not take his drinks less seriously than his food. We love cocktails… we love our craft beer and above all we love our scotch. We love knowing more about our whiskies and what to eat with our drinks. We fondly remember a session by Shatbhi Basu sometime back where we learnt about American whiskies and how to pair Indian tapas with them at Sheraton.
Diageo hosted an Art of Blending event in Gurgaon on Friday, 16th December at Country Inn and Suites by Carlson, Gurgaon where their expert mixologist Mr. Benu Kundra, Brand Ambassador, United Spirits demonstrated the best ways to blend scotch whiskies. We were invited for this special session and we – big fans of whiskey – gladly attended.
Canapé and cocktails were served before the event started and we loved our “Old Fashioned” with watermelon-feta and kebabs. The session started with some trivia about whiskys and the attendees were promised some prizes for correct guesses. This light start led to the main part of the evening which was about pairing different whiskies with various food items like nuts, chocolate, cake etc. This easy going flow enlightened us about whiskies and the time, knowledge, expertise and hard work that goes into making a whiskey worth your money.
The session started late by an hour and we had other commitments that evening. Sadly we had to leave a little before the session ended but whatever we learnt, we left feeling like whisky connoisseurs.
We had a great evening and were impressed by the hospitality of the hotel staff who tried their best to compensate for the delay.
We look forward to attending many such events at Country Suits & Inn by Carlson.
