Avatar: The Way Of Water Delivered Everything We Expected And Much More

Dec 22, 2022 | Movies

Avatar: The Way Of Water (or Avatar 2) is the second film from the extremely famous Avatar franchise by director James Cameron. This 3 hours plus long saga is all that Sci-Fi dreams are made of. Mind-boggling 3D VFX, excellent background score, jaw-dropping underwater fight sequences, and relatable storyline – the film promises 10 times more masala than an average Bollywood potboiler can ever afford to offer.

What is Avatar: The Way Of Water All About

No Spoilers! We promise.

Avatar: The Way Of Water doesn’t start exactly where the first Avatar left us in 2013. The storyline here starts after many years of the previous edition. The Sullys have kids now. Some of them are already teenagers. And not all of them are their biological kids. So they have their own different plots. To save the family from the bad guys, they have to leave the jungle and move to the water world. This water world has its own set of people adding so many more characters to the plot. The fun multiplies several times as soon as Sullys move to the island. There are gigantic fishes, budding romances underwater, poachers that are after these rare animals, and, above all, glowing water creatures… Oh, so beautiful. It’s like a dreamland deep down underwater.

Why you should watch Avatar 2

As we mentioned above, Mind-boggling 3D VFX, supporting background score, skillfully shot fight sequences, and an engaging storyline are the strengths of the movie. Though the movie is a little too long, the director used that time beautifully to let the story sink in and to create a believable passage of time. Almost after an hour or more, the water world part started. The wait was totally worth it because once it started, everything just flowed in… literally. The story felt confusing a bit in the beginning, but once everything started making sense, we got totally engrossed in the movie and invested in the characters.

Apart from the first half an hour, there are not too many dull moments in the film. The story takes turns rapidly creating scope for more and more VFX that is sheer brilliance. The storyline is not exactly new, what with families sticking together and fighting to save each other. But this time, the characters that are a mixed bag of Navis (as in Avatars), humans, and sea animals, take the story forward. This keeps the audience hooked on till the end.

The director managed to extract the best from all the actors. With all the makeup and effects, you can’t make out where real actors stop and where CG characters or effects take over. Everything seems so seamless.

Why watch Avatar: The Way Of Water on the Big Screen

Avatar: The Way Of Water

Movies like Avatar: The Way Of Water can only save the magic of Big Screen Cinema. We don’t know how the movie experience would be on a small mobile phone screen playing on an OTT platform, and honestly, we don’t want to know. The film was a total Paisa-Wasool for a steep Rs. 350/- per ticket on a weekend. The cinema hall was packed to its full capacity, and we got bad corner seats on a second row (last-minute plans). Despite that, we enjoyed every minute of Avatar 2. Avatar: The Way Of Water is undoubtedly the biggest movie of 2022 and we are sure it is running full houses even in regional languages. we are planning to watch it again in Hindi version.

What if you have not watched the first Avatar

One of us had not watched the first edition of Avatar, but still, she thoroughly enjoyed this part. Though she kept asking questions in the beginning. So, it’s better if you have watched the first part, else you feel lost at least in the first 30 minutes or so.

What could have made Avatar 2 better

There’s a reason why we liked Avatar 2 and not loved it. The major drawback is the length of the movie. 3 hours and 12 minutes is an excessive duration for a generation that is growing up on 15-second reels and YouTube shorts. The editing is top-notch, yet we wish the movie was half an hour shorter. Though we savoured every second of the climax, they could have edited the fight part better. Again and again, the kids being trapped by the bad guys on the ship became a little repetitive.

Is Avatar: The Way Of Water The best of 2022

We’re not sure. Businesswise maybe Yes!! The film is breaking all records at the box office. But we can’t say this is the best film we have watched this year. For us maybe Blonde was our favorite film of the year.  Nevertheless, this was a completely different genre and so meant for the cinema halls.

Avatar 2 was probably the last movie we watched on the big screen in 2022. And what a finale… What an outstanding end… Avatar: The Way Of Water delivered everything we expected and much more. Go for it!!!
