Many of us have been concurrently awed and tickled by the humour in the TV series ‘Whose line is it anyway’. Who could believe that India would be a destination for Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood who are currently holding stage shows in many cities in India, courtesy Easy Evenings series by Black Dog

Colin and Brad performed to a pretty much full house last Sunday at Gurgaon’s Club Patio. We didn’t want to let go of the opportunity of being a part of this prodigious evening. The show was scheduled for 8 pm but this was preceded by a “meet and greet” session at 6.30. Notwithstanding travel fatigue (back from the hills that morning), we were at the venue by 7 and were led to an open area that had a makeshift bar serving Black Dog beverages – both hard and the cocktail variety .

This was our first time to Club Patio and we were most impressed to see a lot of open outdoor space. The show was held at one of their lawns that was stylishly done up with huge water bodies, dim lights and a smart black stage. It was no surprise as to why Black Dog had selected this chic venue for the event

The taste of Scotch alongwith the sumptuous snacks that were being carried around lifted the bar up there and by the time the program was announced, we were teeming with expectation.

It was about half past eight that Anuradha Menon (remember “Lola Kutty” from MTV) came up on stage. Now this was a complete surprise and she not only hosted the show but had the opening act. Her jokes on Malaylees and Gujratis and NRIs, though a little cliché, were entertaining, relatable and given her histrionics, very hands-on.

After about half an hour, Colin and Brad took the stage. They followed their TV series style where, instead of a script, the show is driven by audience participation (the improv act). The topics for the items were based on either audience suggestions the performers would improvise or themes set by them that would be completed by the audience.

The great chemistry between the comedians was entertaining, the improvisation fabulous and  the creativity outrageous.  The audience being a player in the show ensured that everyone was involved. In no time, these baaps of comedy had the audience completely engaged in their act and people stayed till late notwithstanding the imminent Monday morning.

Stand up comedy is still a toddler in India and we are still learning. Further, shows by internationally renowned comedy actors are a refreshing variety to the myriad entertainment options in Delhi NCR.  Therefore watching these geniuses perform was a rare treat (they are not even featured in the annual BRM).
