10 Mouth Watering Street Food Of India Everyone Must Try
Whenever you ask people how their impression of a place one of the first things they will talk about is the food. And the foundation of any strong culinary heritage is street food.
Kamdeo Ka Apna Basant Ritu Ka Sapna – Hindi play
Sangeet Natak Academy had organised a week long theatre festival “Natya Samagama” during 9- 17 January, 2016. They exhibited various pieces of contemporary theatre as well as traditional or folk theatre forms. On the last evening, they presented a mainly Hindi / Chhatisgarhi play – “Kamdeo Ka Apna Basant Ritu Ka Sapna” by the group “Naya Theatre” of Bhopal. This is Habib Tanvir’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. We were most curious to look at this rather plucky attempt to present the extremely popular humour “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Hindi and …Chhatisgarhi!
6 restaurants that closed down and left us heartbroken
The old must make way for the new they say. With the surge of new eating places opening in the NCR almost every day, some of the earlier favourites have bid adieu. We miss them and want them back. Here is our homage.
Quaff-Brewery and Kitchen at DLF cyberhub
Quaff, a new brewery at Cyber Hub, Gurgaon has a glass wall that displays the huge cans where they brew beer. This makes quite a photo op. To explore what else this place has to offer, we recently visited them for drinks and dinner.
Imly – A train of flavours
Delhiites routinely eat out. And they routinely run out of options. It is no surprise that hoteliers try to be innovative while embarking on a new food venture. Imly is one such experiment that we visited recently. Cheers (and heartbreaks) – this is an all vegetarian place!
New Delhi World Book Fair – 2016
Two annual book fairs are solid features of the events calendar in Delhi. The new year 2016 begins with the first one – New Delhi World Book Fair, 2016. What does it have in store for us – book lovers or not? Read on for a quick heads-up.
Italiano – Italian cuisine at DLF Cyber Hub
Italiano at Cyber Hub sticks to Italian dishes. Apart from the regular pizzas and pastas, they have interesting salads, vegetarian as well as non vegetarian, that qualify as meals on their own. The tables inside are comfortably spaced and the weather is just right for the limited outdoor seating that they have. Italiano has two other branches at DLF Mega Mall and Phase 3 in Gurgaon.
Wo Lahore featuring Avtar Gill
“Wo Lahore”, directed by Atul Satya Koushik deals with the story of a big joint Hindu family in the backdrop of the Indian struggle for independence. The director manages to recreate that era when Hindu Muslims lived in harmony, but with their reservations in place. The cast was pro and the celebrity TV/film actor Avtar Gill drew crowds as the narrator. “Wo Lahore” was a decent weekend watch.
Wagh Bakri Tea Lounge – Connaught Place
Wagh Bakri has started another Tea Lounge at Outer Circle, Connaught Place. The outlet is spread on two floors and has modern interiors. Tea, as usual, is great here. CP doesn’t have too many tea options (barring Cha Bar and tea stalls on Shankar Road). Thus, this is a most welcome addition in this zone. We look forward to many more outlets in NCR.
Happy New Year – 2016
The Hudson Cafe – A small wonder
The Hudson Café at Delhi University’s North Campus area serves American cum fusion food. This locality is a hub of pocket friendly restaurants and these guys by all means are among the front runners. The food is tasty, prices reasonable, and to top it – their hospitality is outstanding. We went for dinner on a recent weekend and all in all, it was an awesome experience. We give this place brownie points for their sparkling restrooms. We will not think twice before coming to The Hudson Cafe again.
Gharwali – Hindi play
To celebrate the 100th birth centenary of the famous Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai, a play based on her story Gharwali was staged at India Habitat Centre. The play, directed by Shuddho Banerjee, questions the ideas of sexual freedom, role of marriage and other associated issues in the Indian society. The actors are amateurs but the storyline, direction, songs and dances compensate. All together this is an apt Saturday evening watch.
Teatotaller – Top Tea Places in Delhi NCR
Winter is here and so are the chai wallahs at various markets, crossings, nooks and corners. Their aromatic decoction has warmed many a winter mornings. In the last few years tea has graduated to cafes and bored of coffee, many have changed allegiance. No wonder the tea cafes are experiencing growing patronage all over NCR. We have been trying these out – for our benefit – and yours too 🙂 Here’s our report.
Krackerjack Karnival – Why do “bade log” have all the fun!
Krackerjack Karnival transformed JLN Stadium into a fairy land. The festival was one of the few events solely held for children. The cartoon characters like Chhota Bheem and others were available to meet and greet little fans. The fair had game shows, performances, workshops, rides, food and merchandise for children as well as their parents. In tune with the season, there were bits and pieces of Santa everywhere and it seemed that Christmas had an early start in Delhi.
FLYP@Mtv – New kid on the block
We were recently invited to the launch party of FLYP@Mtv. This is the latest kid-on-the-block in Delhi’s club/pub/live music scene. They served a wide variety of fusion food and deserts that had some Indian twist. Among the cocktails, the coffee based “Tall dark and Irish” is a must try. Most importantly, the warmth and hospitality of the waiting guys won our heart. Their outstanding enthusiasm made us feel much at home and we may just go back to FLYP if we want to feel pampered.
