Surajkund Crafts Mela 2013
Surajkund crafts fair is visited by lovers of arts and crafts from all over the world.The undulating topography of Surajkund adds to the charm of the event. Over the years, the fair has shed its puritan craft specific character and has developed a general appeal with an artsy flavour. The aesthetically done up fair ground – with various colourful canopies, festoons and other ornaments that are installed during the fair, can not but permeate the mind uplift the spirit.

New Delhi World Book Fair 2013
It’s party time for book worms. The Delhi World Book Fair 2013 happened from 4th to 10th February at Pragati Maidan. There were thousands of stalls from Indian – established and little known publishers as well as foriegn participants. France was the focus country this year.

Indian Cancer Society presents “The Magical Flute of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia” a concert in aid of Cancer Awareness & Medical Assistance at The Bahai House of Worship (Lotus Temple). Hariprasad Chaurasia, playing the flute during the date between winter and spring, at the Lotus Temple – was sheer magic.

Chicago Children’s Choir in Concert
Chicago Children’s Choir performed Delhi on Indian Republic Day. We attended and let this group of 50 odd multiracial youngsters to conquer our hearts.
DANCE PEACE – Performance by story dancer Zuleikha
Zuleikha, a perfomer from America, presented her take on storydancing. She either danced sort of Kathak-fusion to songs / music or narrated simple stories herself and danced along.
Fastest feet on fire – Pt. Chitresh Das and Antonio Hidalgo
Two internationally acclaimed performers Pt. Chitresh Das at Kathak and Antonio Hidalgo at Flamenco accompanied by a host of excellent musicians, created an event that transcend you to another world altogether. It’s an amalgamation of two dancing styles, two countries, two cultures and two ideas that blend together beautifully without losing their individuality and the result is high energy explosive entertainment.
Afsana – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Afsana, the finale of Bharat Rang Mahotsav is about two middle aged men who became friends after one of them ran over the other’s wife! Both wannabe writers – one got published while the other was struggling with cancer. There is terrorism and cross dressing, mock murder and more kebabs!
Laila Majnu – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Laila Majnu is a legend about star crossed lovers. This we knew already and we wanted to know more about the love story. This play failed to deliver. All we gathered that there was a dog involved in the fate of the lovers. 😀 A heavy dose or Urdu came in our way of understanding the tale.
Dafa 292 – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Based on the life and works of Sadat Hasan Manto – Dafa 292 evoked mixed emotions. The play touched social issues in parts without being preachy at all. “Teen Khamosh Auratein” had audience in splits.
Miss Julie-Bharat Rang Mahotsav
“Ms. Julie” tells the story of a handsome servant and a count’s daughter, highlighting class divide and the universal struggle to attain desired love, regardless of social status.
Odissi Recital by Sonal Mansingh – Golden Jubilee Performances
Sonal Mansingh discourse with two half-hearted and forgettable dance pieces in Bharatnatyam (not Odissi) style – the first predicatble based on the forms of Goddess Shakti and the second, on the rape incident.
