Cafe Amudham-The Most Crispy Benne Dosa You Need To Try

West Delhi’s food scene keeps getting more interesting, and during a recent weekend brunch we landed at Cafe Amudham on Club Road, Punjabi Bagh. A few friends had been talking about this place, especially for its dosas, so we decided to check it out ourselves.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the decor. Instead of the typical South Indian restaurant look, the space feels more like a modern vegetarian cafe. The interiors use a mix of white and turquoise colours, giving it a bright, contemporary vibe. It feels relaxed and cheerful, more cafe-style than the traditional tiffin house setting that many South Indian restaurants follow.

Starting Fresh with Fruit Juices

Since it was a late morning visit, we began with fresh fruit juices. We ordered pomegranate and pineapple juice, both refreshing and a good way to ease into the meal. Of course, starting healthy always gives you the confidence to order freely afterwards.

Thatte Idli and Lemon Rice to Begin

Our first dishes were Thatte ghee podi idli and lemon rice. The Thatte idli really stood out. It was large, soft and generously coated with podi and ghee, making every bite rich and flavourful. One plate itself felt quite substantial and easily works as a satisfying start to the meal. The lemon rice was another pleasant surprise. The portion size was generous and the flavour was nicely balanced. There was just a gentle hint of lemon, enough to keep it fresh without being too tangy or overpowering.

Both dishes were served with chutneys and sambar, and we found ourselves going back to those chutneys again and again. They accompanied almost every dish on the table and were consistently good.

The Dosa Course: Benne Dosa and Ghee Roast Garlic Dosa

No visit to a South Indian cafe in Delhi is complete without dosas, and Cafe Amudham didn’t disappoint. We ordered the benne masala dosa, which arrived crisp and golden with that familiar buttery aroma. The dosa had a satisfying crunch and paired beautifully with the chutneys and sambar. Along with that, we also tried the ghee roast garlic dosa. This one turned out to be quite filling and packed with flavour.

We ordered rava kesri and sweet pongal, two classic South Indian sweet dishes that felt like a comforting way to end the meal. Paired with steaming hot filter coffee, it made for a perfect closing note. Sometimes the best way to enjoy these desserts is to simply forget about calories for a while and focus on the taste.

A Small Drawback: The Waiting Time

While we enjoyed the food overall, one thing we did notice was the waiting time between dishes. There was quite a gap before the next plate arrived. It could be because we visited on a weekend, or perhaps the cafe is currently seeing a lot of popularity. Either way, we did feel that the experience would have been even better if the dishes arrived a little faster and the gaps between courses were shorter.

A Pocket Friendly Vegetarian Cafe in West Delhi

One of the strongest points of Cafe Amudham Punjabi Bagh is that it remains pocket friendly. In a city where cafe dining can easily get expensive, it’s refreshing to find a place where the pricing feels reasonable and the portions are satisfying. Because of this, it works well for group outings, family meals or casual brunch plans. If you are looking for vegetarian cafes in Delhi, especially in the western part of the city, this place is definitely worth trying.

Our brunch at Cafe Amudham turned out to be a pleasant South Indian food experience in West Delhi. The benne dosa, Thatte idli and ghee roast garlic dosa were highlights, and the chutneys served alongside every dish added a lot of flavour to the meal. The white and turquoise cafe-style decor, generous portions and pocket friendly pricing make it a comfortable place to visit with friends or family.
