Masterchef Australia Season 8 – Party at Olive, Qutub
Food talk India hosted a party themed on Masterchef Australia Season 8 that is currently airing on Star World. They introduced the audience to a variety of techniques that chefs use for churning out those sexy dishes that we drool on. The venue was Olive, Qutub and the snacks and drinks that they served is our fodder for another post.
Levels HKV
Who minds an occasional free meal, particularly if it’s a reward for winning a contest. However, trying to redeem it is a different story. We had won a dinner voucher for Levels HKV that we went to redeem. We have mixed views on this place.
Tea Trails – a new tea adda at CP
The tea boom seems to have just started. Delhi NCR is now witnessing the sprouting of cafes that have tea as their mainstay. Its not only tea as a beverage, but tea is used as ingredients in the food that they serve. Tea Trails is the new kid on the block, or accurately speaking, Opposite N block Outer Circle, Connaught Place.
The Junkyard Café – the restaurant not serving junk
Rajouri Garden evolved as a hotspot of eateries in West Delhi and we were all so excited. Every other day we hear of some new restaurant here. Given this explosion, the parking is haywire and the area is quite a clutter that we choose to miss. However we came across The Junkyard Café here on a very hot afternoon last Saturday. Given the harsh weather, the place wasn’t as crowded and the parking scene not too bad and we stopped here for lunch.
Tea Halt – another option for Tea
The going is getting better for tea aficionados in Delhi NCR. Their options are increasing every other day. We quite accidentally came across Tea Halt at a somewhat distant mall, Good Earth City Center in Gurgaon. We decided to try out this place for a pre-lunch tea break!
Triveni Terrace Café – a Place of Art and Yore
In today’s day and age of food drama – smoke – foam – molecules etc. that are fed in the name of food, it is good to find a place in the everchanging Delhi NCR that has stood the test of time. Triveni Terrace Café has been in business since 70 – 80 years and looks like a haven in the heart of Delhi. We had some friends over and came here for an early meal. Bell Pepperz – Mother’s Day lunch for a vegetarian mother
There are vegetarians and vegetarians. While eating out, some don’t mind eating vegetarian food at a place that also serves non-veg. For some, this is not acceptable and they adhere to vegetarian food places. Others are for Jain food and shun places that add onion or garlic. There is no dearth of options for any of the above preferences in Delhi NCR. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we lunched at Bell Pepperz, a vegetarian restaurant of the liberated variety.
Hawaiian Summer menu at Pizza Express
Pizza is one of the most popular fast foods among kids and adults. Very many standalone pizza joints dot malls and shopping arcades all over NCR. We totally dig pizza, health is for another day! Thus, when we won this dinner invite at Pizza Express, Vasant Kunj for their Hawaiian Summer menu, we attended.
Oh My God – New restaurant in Connaught Place
Oh My God in Connaught Place is one among many restaurants in this area. Given that every other restaurant here is non distinguishable from each other, it is tough competition for them. They should be at the top of their act to make a name for themselves. We recently visited Oh My God to experience this place.
Southy – Simple South Indian food in South Delhi
Southy, a South Indian quick service food joint has branches all over Delhi NCR. They have a smallish outlet beside PVR Saket. We had an early dinner before watching our movie. The dinner was decent and all in all took just 30 minutes.
Thai Food in Delhi – J W Marriot, Aerocity
Thai cuisine is a combination of flavours, colors, aroma and texture. While Thai food can get spicy, the heat is very different and milder than Indian food. Given the abundance of raw / fresh ingredients in this cuisine, Thai food is easy to digest and is very suitable for the ongoing crazy days of super high temperature. J W Marriot at Aerocity near the airport is holding a Bangkok Food Festival. We visited this event last weekend to taste some Thai food.
Shiraz – The Biryani you don’t get in Delhi
Biryani is a cult. Aficionados do not mind travelling cities to have the perfect biryani. This complete dish mostly comprising rice – meat – rose water – spices has evolved in various styles all over India.
Zomato meetup at Lutyen’s Cocktail House
Lutyen’s Cocktail House is located at the rather isolated Janpath crossing near CP. With most areas having a different café at adjacent doors, CP – Hauz Khas Village – Rajouri Garden – Sector 29 Gurgaon – there is a lotto competition and chaos. At Lutyen’s Cocktail House, the surrounding area is peaceful and given that this is the only resto-bar here, there is not a lot of commotion. Works well on any evening.
Bille di Hatti – North campus’ favourite food joint
North campus is perhaps as popular as a food hub as a hub of education. To cater to the insatiable hunger/curiosity of students, this area has attracted food business over times. One such place that we used to frequent in our college days is Bille di hatti. We recently revisited this gastronomical experience.
