6 restaurants that closed down and left us heartbroken

6 restaurants that closed down and left us heartbroken

The old must make way for the new they say. With the surge of new eating places opening in the NCR almost every day, some of the earlier favourites have bid adieu. We miss them and want them back. Here is our homage.

Quaff-Brewery and Kitchen at DLF cyberhub

Quaff-Brewery and Kitchen at DLF cyberhub

Quaff, a new brewery at Cyber Hub, Gurgaon has a glass wall that displays the huge cans where they brew beer. This makes quite a photo op. To explore what else this place has to offer, we recently visited them for drinks and dinner.

Imly – A train of flavours

Imly – A train of flavours

Delhiites routinely eat out. And they routinely run out of options. It is no surprise that hoteliers try to be innovative while embarking on a new food venture. Imly is one such experiment that we visited recently. Cheers (and heartbreaks) – this is an all vegetarian place!

Italiano – Italian cuisine at DLF Cyber Hub

Italiano – Italian cuisine at DLF Cyber Hub

Italiano at Cyber Hub sticks to Italian dishes. Apart from the regular pizzas and pastas, they have interesting salads, vegetarian as well as non vegetarian, that qualify as meals on their own. The tables inside are comfortably spaced and the weather is just right for the limited outdoor seating that they have. Italiano has two other branches at DLF Mega Mall and Phase 3 in Gurgaon.

Wagh Bakri Tea Lounge – Connaught Place

Wagh Bakri Tea Lounge – Connaught Place

Wagh Bakri has started another Tea Lounge at Outer Circle, Connaught Place. The outlet is spread on two floors and has modern interiors. Tea, as usual, is great here. CP doesn’t have too many tea options (barring Cha Bar and tea stalls on Shankar Road). Thus, this is a most welcome addition in this zone. We look forward to many more outlets in NCR.

The Hudson Cafe – A small wonder

The Hudson Cafe – A small wonder

The Hudson Café at Delhi University’s North Campus area serves American cum fusion food. This locality is a hub of pocket friendly restaurants and these guys by all means are among the front runners. The food is tasty, prices reasonable, and to top it – their hospitality is outstanding. We went for dinner on a recent weekend and all in all, it was an awesome experience. We give this place brownie points for their sparkling restrooms. We will not think twice before coming to The Hudson Cafe again.

Teatotaller – Top Tea Places in Delhi NCR

Teatotaller – Top Tea Places in Delhi NCR

Winter is here and so are the chai wallahs at various markets, crossings, nooks and corners. Their aromatic decoction has warmed many a winter mornings. In the last few years tea has graduated to cafes and bored of coffee, many have changed allegiance. No wonder the tea cafes are experiencing growing patronage all over NCR. We have been trying these out – for our benefit – and yours too 🙂 Here’s our report.

FLYP@Mtv – New kid on the block

FLYP@Mtv – New kid on the block

We were recently invited to the launch party of FLYP@Mtv. This is the latest kid-on-the-block in Delhi’s club/pub/live music scene. They served a wide variety of fusion food and deserts that had some Indian twist. Among the cocktails, the coffee based “Tall dark and Irish” is a must try. Most importantly, the warmth and hospitality of the waiting guys won our heart. Their outstanding enthusiasm made us feel much at home and we may just go back to FLYP if we want to feel pampered.

Unwind at Adda by Striker

Unwind at Adda by Striker

Striker is a popular name among pubs and breweries in Delhi NCR. Adda by Striker, after garnering a decent reputation in Gurgaon has opened a new branch GK 1, N-Block market. This was the venue for a recent Zomato Meetup where we were invited. Frankly we did not think much of the cocktails. However, some of the snacks were nice. But the desserts, Choco Mud Pie and Tres Leches Cake, were surprisingly tasty and positively sealed the experience for us.

ELF Cafe & Bar – Hauz Khas Village

ELF Cafe & Bar – Hauz Khas Village

The ELF Cafe & Bar is located close to the entrance of the Hauz Khas Village but you might just miss it among the more prominent glow boards on that building. It’s a spacious lounge area and seating arrangements are also available on the balcony. One can have a bird’s eye view of the busy HKV gully from here. The food is just about OK. If you are in that area and can’t find a footing at the other places, you may give this place a shot.

Kebab Gali – Kebabs & Biryani in South Delhi

Kebab Gali – Kebabs & Biryani in South Delhi

Kebab Gali as the name suggests serves Mughlai food at their outlet at Vasant Square Mall. They have some dining space but one can make out they mostly survive on takeaways and delivery. Their Dahi Kebabs are delicate and delicious. The other items that we had – biriyani – chicken tikka etc. were decent but spicy. We were redeeming a voucher gifted by Zomato but the Kebab Gali guys were not very forthcoming on this.

New Delhi Palate Fest 2015

New Delhi Palate Fest 2015

The huge New Delhi Palate Fest was organised at PSOI Cub, Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri. The event comprised a huge agglomeration of stalls by almost all big names in the hospitality industry. The visitors were terribly spoilt for choice in terms of quality and variety of food. The program was peppered with sessions by celebrity chefs and music by live bands. The turnout was stupendous and the Traffic Police had a trying time in handling the cars in that area. The Festival establishes that Delhi is still unarguably the food capital of the country.

Chaayos – Getting high on tea at Hauz Khas Village

Chaayos – Getting high on tea at Hauz Khas Village

Chaayos has opened quite a few branches in Delhi NCR and had a kiosk at the Trade Fair. They serve a longish list of teas, other beverages and snacks. The snacks are ok. But chai is their star. A tad expensive, it is still an experience that is mostly reserved for coffee shops. Moreover, the store guys at the Hauz Khas Village are super hospitable and their warmth most definitely adds to the reasons of coming back here.

Sakley’s The Mountain Café

Sakley’s The Mountain Café

Sakley’s The Mountain Café, M Block market, GK outlet tries too tries to hard to be upscale. The décor is artificial and the food and beverages that we tried were just about average. Probably the effect of trying to bring something from the mountains to the dry and dusty plains of an ostentatious locality of Delhi. The place lacks soul.
