Jug Jug Jiyo
“Jug Jug Jiyo” was about celebrating the girl child. In a simple and entertaining manner, the 1 hour 15 minutes play managed to touch the right chords. The play looked like an extension of “Vickey Donor”. Dolly Ahluwalia and Swaroopa Ghosh in their respective Punjabi and Bengali women roles brought life to the characters.
Tumhari Amrita
Shabana Azmi and Farooq Sheikh – in their finest stage performance, reading out letters – The heart warming story of an unrequited love woven in love letters written over a time span of 35 years in “Tumhari Amrita”.
Where did I leave my purdah
“Where did I leave my purdah”, written by Mahesh Dattani and directed by Lillete Dubey has all ingredients of a successful play – A crisp story, special effects on stage, partition, sibling rivalry and – cinema.
Afsana – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Afsana, the finale of Bharat Rang Mahotsav is about two middle aged men who became friends after one of them ran over the other’s wife! Both wannabe writers – one got published while the other was struggling with cancer. There is terrorism and cross dressing, mock murder and more kebabs!
Laila Majnu – Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Laila Majnu is a legend about star crossed lovers. This we knew already and we wanted to know more about the love story. This play failed to deliver. All we gathered that there was a dog involved in the fate of the lovers. 😀 A heavy dose or Urdu came in our way of understanding the tale.
