Being through and through from the city Delhi, nature and wildness have been perennial pursuits. We recently got an opportunity to visit such a hotspot – Sabah in Malaysia. It is a place where you can visit the hills as well as the beaches in a single day and party the same night.
Did you know that there is a proper marshland off Noida? Its the Okhla Bird Sanctuary that is home to about 200 species if migratory birds from autumn to winter. Once inside we were almost transported to scenes from Africa. Ornithologist Mr. Singh took us on a bird walk inside the sanctuary and showed us many species. It made waking up early on a winter morning so worthwhile!
The Wildlife Trust of India and Ministry of Environment have organised Gaj Mahotsav. The focus is to raise awareness about Asiatic elephants. It is a first and kudos to this project. This is what we encountered here.

For many of us Shimla is Himachal Pradesh. But our Tirthan Valley trip was a reckoning. There is so much more in Himachal than Shimla and snow. During our stay at Tirthan Angler’s Retreat, we did quite a bit of travelling in Tirthan Valley and this post is about our visit upto Sarchi village.
Tirthan Anglers’ Retreat is a beautiful resort in Tirthan Valley tucked among the remote hills of Himachal Pradesh. The Retreat is on the bank of Phalachan River, a tributary of Tirthan River. In fact the river almost winds its way through this resort. It is already monsoon in the hills and we just spent a couple of amazing days here fishing for happiness. Quite literally so.
We as travelers need our comfort spot once in a while. Given its proximity and multiple modes of transport, Jim Corbett National Park has emerged as our go to place this season. We have stayed at a couple of places and Golden Tusk Resort here is among our favourite.. We always fondly look back at our holidays here.
Jim Corbett National Park is one of those holiday spots in the country that is popular as a summer vacation destination from Delhi. It is an all season tourist spot in India and no wonder there are a host of hotels and resorts trying to cash in. We tried to spot some unique living arrangements here and to this end, our last summer break was at Golden Tusk, Ramnagar. It lies at the periphery of the National Park and, in addition to the understated luxury, springs surprises.
About two weeks ago, we were at Aahana Wellness Resort. It was mainly a detox tour. But Aahana is located at the periphery of Jim Corbett National Park. However we did not have any plans for going into the forests. But given that we were at Jim Corbett, the situation behooved we went for a jungle safari.
We were at Aahana The Corbett Wilderness, a Resort and Wellness Centre to handle our post Holi guilt. With the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve as its backdrop, Aahana provides a wide range of experience that vacillate between luxury and responsibility. Throw in lavish breakfast, bicycle ride to local village, sturdy hammock and bonfire at night, we are in heaven on earth.
Ranthambore – a sprawling, protected park just over 100 km from Jaipur, is in the south of Rajasthan. At the Ranthambore National Park, you get the opportunity to view tigers in a natural and realistic habitat that’s quite different from what we commonly see in fiction. The tigers are unforgettable, the additional wildlife is fascinating and the fort represents a fascinating piece of Indian history.
