Cyprus Food Festival in Delhi

Dec 11, 2018 | Eating out, Food

Date: 14th December 2018
Venue: ITC Maurya, Delhi

We have drooled over the pristine beach photos of Cyprus. And we recently drooled over Cypriot food at the Cyprus Food Festival that is being held during dinner at Ottimo, ITC Maurya. The festival is on till 16th December, 2018 and we were privy to a curtain-raiser last Friday.

The food festival is organised by Cyprus High Commission in collaboration with ITC Maurya and the Hon’ble High Commissioner inaugurated the event. We love Ottimo – the beautiful view of Delhi Ridges it offers and were all curiosity about the new cuisine. Cypriot salads, starters, main course and dessert were the format. There were loads of greens and other colours from vegetables like carrots, broccoli and beet root in the fare. There was fish, lamb and lot of pork dishes assorted with the flora in the meal. We loved the pork salami marinated in wine. Apparently the chefs have got most ingredients – such as the wine, seasoning and even the pork from Cyprus!  Kudos to their effort and given the fact that the lamb chop cloche was polished in a very short while – we say the hard work was duly appreciated. The Cypriot red wine that we sipped on the side had a mild fruity flavour and complimented the protein-fibre combo in the meal.

Cyprus food has a strong Middle Eastern – Turkish influence. The baklava in the dessert was a clear indicator. We also loved the crispy patty topped with honey here. The creams and cheese cakes were familiar – more like old is gold. We ended the lunch with the chocolate truffle cake that we guess is from Fabelle.

If you want some magic where the food is not distracting, but delightful, try the Cyprus food fest. Given the charming settings of Ottimo and the subtle meal, it could be a super romantic experience. Even otherwise, the meal was devoid of chilli-heat and that worked magic for Bedabrata. He is now a big advocate of Cyprus cuisine and has been advocating (he is a qualified lawyer and a little pun here) the Cyprus Food Festival at ITC Maurya to just about everybody he is meeting.
