A Line in the Earth – Exhibition

“A Line in the Earth” brings together acclaimed contemporary artists Hasseena Suresh (India) and Pradeep Thalawatta (Sri Lanka) in a powerful two-artist show curated at LATITUDE 28, New Delhi.

The exhibition explores themes of memory, conflict, resilience, and the politics of land, drawing inspiration from Kerala’s agrarian landscapes and post-war Sri Lanka’s fractured geographies.

• Hasseena Suresh works with clay, ceramics, and stoneware to interrogate feminist narratives, patriarchal structures, and ecological cycles. Her sculptural practice embodies care, protest, and reimagination, rooted in sustainable, community-driven methods.

• Pradeep Thalawatta creates multidisciplinary works across photography, drawing, video, and installation, reflecting on post-conflict Sri Lanka, urban transformations, and the quiet persistence of trauma and memory.

The title “A Line in the Earth” symbolizes both borders and connections—drawing attention to the ground beneath us as witness, archive, and source of renewal.

About the Artists

Hasseena Suresh (b. 1968, Kerala, India):
A contemporary Indian sculptor, Suresh’s works focus on gender struggles, feminist ethics, sustainability, and cultural memory. She runs Clayfingers Pottery in Kerala, a repurposed tile factory and ecological studio space.

Pradeep Thalawatta (b. 1979, Colombo, Sri Lanka):
A multidisciplinary artist, Thalawatta explores memory, trauma, and identity in post-war Sri Lanka through photography, performance, and installations. He holds a BFA and MFA from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore.
