Artisera presents “Aksharscape”, a solo exhibition of contemporary Devanagari calligraphy by acclaimed artist Nikheel Aphale, at the prestigious Bikaner House, New Delhi. This much-awaited show marks Nikheel’s first-ever solo exhibition in Delhi, celebrating the elegance, rhythm, and spiritual depth of the Devanagari script.
“Aksharscape” is a powerful visual journey where letters become landscapes. Drawing from his deep-rooted connection with the Marathi language and Indian traditions, Nikheel transforms letters into abstract forms that evoke memory, emotion, and reflection.
Through a minimal and experimental style, his brushstrokes challenge the boundaries between script and symbolism—between language and art. Expect black-and-white compositions, asemic writing, repeated forms, and creative techniques using toothbrushes, sponges, and even coconut husks.
Born in Mumbai in 1979, Nikheel Aphale is a TEDx speaker, graphic designer, and contemporary calligrapher. A graduate of LS Raheja School of Art and NID Ahmedabad, he has trained under renowned calligrapher Brody Neuenschwander and participated in major art festivals across India, South Korea, Belgium, and Taiwan.
His work has been recognized internationally, including the Jikji Excellence in Calligraphy Award, and has been featured in India’s new Parliament Building. In 2020, his debut solo show “Sacred Strokes” sold out in six hours.
