About the Artist

Born in 1943, Amit Ambalal turned to art full-time at 36 after years in the family textile business. A prolific artist, his work has been exhibited widely in India and internationally. Ambalal is also the author of the seminal book “Krishna as Shrinathji,” chronicling the Pichwai paintings of Nathdwara. His accolades include:

  • Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Award (1974)
  • Civitella Ranieri Foundation Fellowship, Italy (2003)
  • Gaurav Puraskar, Gujarat State Lalit Kala Akademi (2008)
