Vadehra Art Gallery proudly presents Bachpan, a solo exhibition by acclaimed Delhi-based photographer Vicky Roy, featuring 45 compelling black-and-white photographs curated from two major bodies of work: Bachpan and the never-before-seen Janwaar Castle series.
Through his lens, Roy offers an intimate and nostalgic look into childhood in India’s underrepresented communities, capturing moments of innocence, resilience, and creativity. The images span diverse geographies—from Odisha and Chhattisgarh to Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal—celebrating children at play, forging dreams amid adversity.
The Janwaar Castle series shines a spotlight on a grassroots skateboarding movement in Madhya Pradesh, emphasizing empowerment, community spirit, and youth development.
Born in 1987, Vicky Roy’s inspiring journey took him from life on the streets to international acclaim. A Salaam Baalak Trust alumnus, he studied at Triveni Kala Sangam and the International Center of Photography, New York. Roy has exhibited globally, including at the Asia Society Texas Center, Houston FotoFest, and Kochi-Muziris Biennale. He’s the author of two books, including Everyone Is Good at Something (2024), and was named to Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list in 2016.
