Hand- made ceramics, though very popular, are slowly but surely being nudged out. Competition from imported, cheaper, more vibrant commercial pottery, available all over the city is largely responsible for this. At present, there is a definite shift towards sculptural ceramics, which in itself provides a whole range of exciting possibilities. To promote these various aspects, the Trust has been organizing the Ceramics fest on a very large scale. This year will see the participation of 80 ceramic artists from all over India.
The Delhi Blue Pottery Trust was founded in 1991 by the legendary Sardar Gurcharan Singh, known as the father of the studio pottery movement in India. Set up for the promotion of pottery, the Trust has, since then, worked tirelessly to realise his vision, by bringing ceramic art to the forefront of modern art. The Ceramics Fest is an integral part of this effort.
