An Immersive Kaavad Experience | Art × Storytelling × Community
Step into the mythical world of Maaya, an immersive, interdisciplinary storytelling performance by The Kaavad Project, set amidst KNMA’s ongoing exhibition “Of Worlds Within Worlds – Gulammohammed Sheikh: A Retrospective.”
Created by Akhshay Gandhi and Rohit Bhasi, Maaya transforms the traditional Kaavad storytelling format into a living, moving archive – where mythology, memory, and motion converge through layered, metaphorical journeys.
Expect an exclusive after-hours museum experience including:
At the heart of Maaya lies the story of Ram and Rahim, who traverse time and myth through the unfolding panels of the Kaavad. On a quest to stop King Mahabali from destroying and recreating the three worlds, they pass through stories and riddles — unlocking themes of duality, love, bravery, and human emotions.
Structured in the spirit of Kathasaritsagara (story within a story), the performance delves into:
Akhshay Gandhi – Acclaimed theatre artist, TEDx speaker, and global performer trained with SITI Company (NYC) and Odin Teatret (Denmark).
Rohit Bhasi – Bengaluru-based visual artist exploring myth, memory, and contemporary folk through Kaavad and performance art.
Anita Gandhi – Creative producer and host, known for curating artful hospitality experiences blending food, performance, and culture.
