Solo Exhibition at Nature Morte Gallery, New Delhi
Nature Morte is excited to present Daylight in Stereo & Other Adventures in Movement, a solo exhibition featuring the latest works by acclaimed artist Navin Thomas. Known for his innovative approach to sound, materiality, and improvisation, Thomas’ new series explores music as a landscape, turning abstract concepts of rhythm and harmony into tangible, interactive art objects.
The exhibition includes several key series:
- Study of Jogger’s Lanes: Featuring intricate marquetry made from various types of wood, this series integrates music boxes, allowing viewers to create their own sonic experiences.
- Study of Daylight in Phases: A set of sculptural lattices in complementary colors that interact with light and shadow.
- Fictional Symphony Halls: Architectonic models on stilts, evoking the mystery of temples, theaters, and futuristic structures.
- Untitled Series: These complex, unfolding frames contain cryptic pictograms representing birds, mountains, and other organic shapes.
About Navin Thomas:
Navin Thomas (b. 1974) is a sculptor and sound artist who works primarily with mixed media and found objects. His art delves into the intersections of acoustics, ecology, and architecture, reinterpreting the dynamic relationship between sound and space. With exhibitions at major venues such as the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and Europalia India, Thomas has been recognized with multiple prestigious awards, including The Skoda Prize for Contemporary Art (2012).
